I just saw star exactly how you describe  I was at my parents house they live in north scottsdale buy scottsdale airport  scottsdale arizona what time was around 9:48pm. Was green with maybe a hint of blue  in the center  surrounded by an orange halo  I was facing west  maybe a little northwest  the direction it was traveling was south to north  it started hi in the atmosphere and died about 3 quarters away from horizon  it was only the second shooting star that was that big that I have seen  the other 1 was all orange around the beginning of the summer this year  as for the size I'm not an astronomer  but it was huge  if they say most shooting stars are the size of pebbles  I would say this was the size of a 747  but again I am not an astronomer  I saw it and I searched it online and saw your website  and sent you an email  I hope this helps     indeed! Thank you Chris

I saw the most amazing thing this morning!! It was close to one in the morning on October 16th!! I was walking across the yard from my Moms house over to mine and I happen to look up to the sky!! It was the biggest and most brightest falling star I've ever seen!! It was amazing!! It was HUGE!! I watched it as it got closer and closer!! It looked like it disappeared at the top of the Pine Trees in my yard!! It reminds me of the way the firework shoots out the end of a Roman Candle and then falls slowly to the ground! It was completely white though!! Had no color or tail!?! So im not to sure of what I saw! I just know that it was amazing that I happen to be going across the yard that late at night and was lucky enough to see it!! It was fabulous!! I have looked all over to see if anyone else from my town saw it too! I am from Southern Mississippi!! My brother works for NASA, I am going to ask him to find out what he can about it!!  I know what I saw, Im not crazy!! For it to be as big as it was, somebody has to know what it was! It didnt explode it just went out! If you find anything out about it I would love to know!! I am just an old country girl that never gets to see amazing things like that and would love to be able to explain to people that what I saw was actually there and that it wasnt a stupid plane or firework!!  Mississippi Girl     thank you Mary...Others?????

Large Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Ontario Canada Meteor Fireball 04OCT2011

Email From:
Karen S.-Novi, MI:
Tonight (October 4 2011)  around 8 pm we heard a boom, I went to sit outside and about 8:10 pm  I witnessed the most beautiful bright green and orange long streaking fireball shoot across the sky in the city of Novi, MI. I was in such awe to see such a beautiful thing, wondering if this was a meteor or what, it reminded me of a very brightly lit bottle rocket shooting across the sky, but there was no noise. Do you know what this was? I really would like to know if what I witnessed was indeed a meteor.

From T.J.-Bryan, OH:
On 10/04/2011  I was traveling east on state route 6 in Bryan O.H. And saw a green flash with like a red end to the green trail it only lasted a few seconds and vanished it was on the northern side of the Highway.

Kevin K.-Kitchener Ontario, Canada:
I was driving "North" along Hwy. 85 near Bridgeport Road exit and saw a very bright, long lasting meteor losing altitude, moving from West to North, in North West horizon over Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Light seemed to have terminated close to horizon. No other radio or internet reports seen or heard as of yet.
Hope this is useful.
Kevin

Roman V.-Embro Ontario, Canada:
Hi there, at approximately 7:58 pm tonight driving westbound on the 401 in SW Ontario Canada between Kitchener and Woodstock (aprox 5-6KM east of exit 250) I spotted a huge green ball to the west travelling from the south west in a northerly direction however it appeared to be losing altitude quite quick as well as fragmenting before it disappeared behind the tree line of the horizon.
I live 10miles west/Nwest of Woodstock and still being at least 20-25 minutes from home I thought it possible it may have traveled almost over my house.
More than likely it was closer to Lake Huron but no way to tell either way.
Hope this helps.
Cheers, Roman

Jill D.-Novi, MI:
At approximately 8:30pm October 4, 2011 I saw what looked like a comet or a meteor with a fiery long tail. It was moving pretty quickly and I was only able to see it for a few seconds. I am in Novi, MI and I am so curious if anyone else has seen it and if so, can u tell me what we saw!!

J.L.-Windsor Ontario, Canada:
I am located in Windsor Ontario Canada , right across the river from Detroit Michigan  ,Was watching tv  OCT 4 2011 about 8 pm  when I noted a glow from the front window which faces west. I have seen many shooting stars before & this appeared to much larger than anything I have seen , It was coming down at 45 degree angle & slower than the usual shooting star , was visible for 10 seconds or so before it went behind trees.  It looked large & very bright green there seemed to be a white halo around the edge & it was trailing white sparks , it broke into 2 pieces  both trailing white sparks. Fom my position it appeared to be heading west northwest  It was bright enough & large enough that I wonder if it impacted , surely someone saw it....

Cheryl M.-South Haven, MI:
I saw the fireball this evening (October 4, 2011) at around 8:05 pm EST.  I am in South Haven, Michigan along the Lake Michigan shoreline.  I was facing East and saw it move from upper right to lower left in the sky.  Upper left to lower right.  As it moved across the sky it moved downward.  It happened so fast but long enough to be in awe.  I questioned what I say and thought fireworks but there was no sound.    I did not hear a boom before the seeing the light.  We had just come outside 5 minutes earlier.  My biggest impression was the size of the white light ball that than streaked.  I told my son that I thought I saw green too at the time but now that a few hours have passed I'm not remembering exact details regarding the color.  Grateful to have witnessed it!  We had just come outside to check out the moon.  What an unexpected sky treat!
Thanks, Cheryl

Marc P.-South Central MI:
This evening shortly before 8p EDT, I witnessed a greenish/yellow streak like a comet in the western sky as I faced southwest in lower-mid Michigan.  It lasted for 6-8 seconds before it dissipated behind a 60' tree I was under.  It moved much slower than the usual shooting stars that I've seen and its trail was 5-7 tea the size of the moon at that time.  It was quite brilliant.  I'm quite fascinated to learn about other eyewitness accounts.  Is this an early part of the NASA predicted show of October 8??

B. Mulligan-Ontario, Canada:
Date: October 4th, 2011 Time: 8:11 EST Location: North Pelham, Ontario, Canada My wife and I were returning from an early movie and dinner and were almost home, driving due west down the road to our house. In the black sky ahead a white light suddenly appeared, much like the light on an airplane as it approaches you. It started at about 30 degrees above the horizon and descended quickly to earth at about a 45 degree angle. From our location it looked to descend from south to north. We could only see it for about one second and it disappeared behind the treeline which was fairly close. My wife and I both remarked on it; we had not seen anything quite like it before. When we arrived home I phoned the police thinking the light was indeed on an airplane that might have crashed within a few miles of us. They told me at the time they had received no other calls other than mine. I'm glad I found this site....now I can finally sleep! - BM

Jerry G.-NW OH:

I was sitting on my front porch in NW Ohio outside of Elmore when I saw a meteor coming straight down NNW of my location. It developed a tail and lasted for a couple of seconds before it went behind the trees. I live in a woods so I missed a fair amount of the view as it descended closer to the ground. I looked at my watch after I saw it and it was 8:05 PM. I did not hear anything.

Cherie B.-Livonia, MI:
I stepped out onto my patio last night and was facing west when I saw a bright light desending.  I thought it was a plane at first, but was much brighter.  Then it fragmented into 2 pieces and trailed for another couple seconds and then seemed to burn out.  I was looking for news reports this morning, and this was the only site that had any information about the sighting.  It was about 1/8 of the brightness of the moon and I didn't hear any sound.  I was curious if it was a meteor or maybe one of our many satellites up there.

Charles N.-London, Ontario Canada:
Consistent with other folks, I saw the same thing.  I have never seen anything so large moving so slowly across the night sky.  It lasted at least 5 full seconds and was moving south to north and was visible as I approached due west.  The colour was more blue than green... blue on the top, greenish in the middle and bright white on the bottom.  As it passed the horizon to the north I waited to hear the 'boom'... not sure if this was a plane or a large firework.
Immediately after, on the radio in London (FM96) many folks called in and reported the same.  Very cool.

Benjamin G.-Cleveland, OH:
peace,
I live in Cleveland, Ohio. It was approximately 7:45. I was driving westbound, and it was so HUGE it caught my eye instantly. It seemed to start as a big ball and then the streak followed behind it. It burned up in a bright greenish-blue color. It seemed to be moving West to North as it fell out of the sky. I was in my car, so I didn't hear anything at the time.
Matt P.-Rochester Hills, MI 8:05pm:
Driving home tonight I saw a streaking white light travelong west to east.  It looked like a firework shooting through the shy. It lasted several seconds then burst into several pieces.  There was a plane flying by right above it. Very strange!!
Appears I am not the only one to see it.
Michelle B.-Windsor Ontario, Canada:
Did I really see this!? Amazing!! Talking to my friend after work in the parking lot in Windsor Ontario about 8:05 or so and was distracted by a light out of the corner of my eye. I looked and pointed and asked if she had seen that. She thought it was a falling star but I told her no way, it was like a ball of flames. I told my boyfriend (who thought I was losing it) and when I woke up someone had posted this link on 0facebook! What a once in a lifetime opportunity!! So cool! How often are these seen???
Thanks for letting me relive my encounter!!
Michelle
Lisa B.-Lake Michigan "Thumb":
My sister and I were on our way home from grocery shopping near the "thumb" area of Michigan and seen the fireball. It was lower in the horizon than anything I have ever witnessed. It was traveling from the east/southeast to west/northwest. Broke into two pieces before completely burning out. Never seen anything like it before. Glad to know others also witnessed it!
Lisa J. B
Eric C.-Farmington Hills, MI:
I was standing in a parking lot last night about 8pm and a friend and I witnessed the downward streaking fireball. It was very bright and multi-colored.
We were in Farmington Hills, Michigan near the intersection of Grand River Avenue and 10 Mile Road.  The fireball was to the Northwest of us (over Milford, MI)
It seemed very close...to the point where my friend thought it was a bullet (he has seen many in his home country).  I found your website after a Google search in looking for what the streak could have been.
Best Regards,
Eric M. C
Kelcie S.-Auburn, MI:
On October 4, 2011 at about 8pm EST, I was traveling west on US-10 near Auburn, MI, and I saw a greenish-orange tail of what I assume was a meteorite to the south. It appeared to be split in two and was only visible for a few seconds. It was a little less than 45 degrees above the horizon. It moved slightly north of west and was about a third the brightness of the moon last night. Hope this observation helps! I am a bit farther north than many of your previous comments. Please let me know if you desire any further information.
Thank you!
Julie F.-West Bloomfield, MI:
Last night my daughter, my neighbor, and myself saw what looked like a meteor or shooting star travel from the east to the west shortly after 8 p.m.  We were in Clawson, Rochester, and West Bloomfield, Michigan, in the Southeastern part of the State.  It was a stunning “sign in the heavens” for us, as all three of us had just spoken to God in prayer,
Jan B.-Belle River Ontario, Canada:
Large Fireball coming from south east spotted from Belle River Ontario, lasted for few seconds, before separated into at least 3 pieces and disappeared (burned) .
Amanda W.-Novi, MI USA
A co- worker and I were leaving work at a location near the NE corner of 10 Mile & Beck in Novi, MI  at around 8/8:10 pm.  Altho I heard no sonic boom, it was my co-worker who noticed it first.  I turned to face West to just catch the tail end of a yellow – white stream in the sky before it dropped bel;ow a tree line & was no longer in sight.  Was traveling from W/NW direction (upper left to lower Right) .  My co-worker thought it was a shooting star as she has never witnessed one before J
Scott W.-Berkley, MI:
On the evening of 10/04/11 I was leaving the house around 8:05 pm in Berkley Michigan when I saw a large orange/yellow fireball in the western sky.  It had a long tail that quickly fizzled out as it appeared to fall from the sky going from what seemed the south east to north west.  It was a clear beautiful night and it was clearly visible for several seconds and was completely silent.  Not sure if it was a comet or a meteor.
Steve P.-Ypsilanti, MI
I also witnessed said meteor from Ypsilanti, MI. It was by far the largest and most impressive one I have ever seen; it appeared to be extremely close and moving straight down in the west northwestern sky before splitting into two pieces one that moved off slightly to the north and the other slightly to the south. Awesome!
Lisey S.-Unknown Location:
At around 8:00p.m saw what looked to be a meteorite in the western sky, travelling in a northerly descending direction. The projectile split into two, before burning out, and must have crashed somewhere near by. Shortly after, i heard a car alarm go off in which i assumed was hit by the fireball. (lol)
Dianne G.-Ontario, Canada:
On October 4, 2011 at approximately 8:10 pm, I was travelling west on Snyder’s Road between Petersburg and Baden (near Waterloo ON) and saw two very bright white lights in the western sky travelling in tandem at about a 45 degree angle towards the horizon.  They were visible for about 4-5 seconds before they faded.  Like another witness reported, I was concerned it was a plane going down until the lights quickly faded in the dark sky and I realized what I had seen was actually a fragmented meteorite.

Sue B.-Trenton, MI:
I was driving west on Vreeland Road toward Fort Street about 8:05 pm on the evening of October 4, 2011.  I was on the phone with my daughter who was in Monroe, Michigan at the time.  I saw the fireball/meteor and didn’t know what it was.  It seemed so low.  It was about 1/2 the size of a full moon, maybe a little smaller, but very large for a shooting star.  When I first saw it, I said, “Oh my God”.  My daughter said the same thing at the same time.  Then she said, “Shooting Star”.  I asked, “Did you see that too?”  Monroe is about 30 miles south of Trenton and we saw the same thing at the same time.  We couldn’t believe we both seen it at the exact same time.  It was like a large fireball...it only lasted a couple of seconds from when I seen it. It was travelling north west, pretty low in the sky.  It appeared to have broken in two, then it disappeared.  It was yellowish with a bluish/greenish tint around it.  Hard to remember now.  I listened to the news this morning but heard nothing about it.  I then searched the internet for information on it and found this site.  Very, very amazing.  I’ve never seen anything like it before.  Crazy!

Kathleen S.-Cincinnati, OH:
Hello...I'm writing in regards to the fireball/meteor I witnessed on October 4, 2011
I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and was traveling westbound on US 52 (along the Ohio River).  I witnessed a huge fireball/meteor that appeared to my North and was traveline in a west/ possible SW direction, hard to say exactly as US 52 curves along the river so I'm not sure if I was traveline due west or possible north at that particular section of the highway.  It was the largest meteor/fireball I had ever witnessed and lasted for a long time.  I was able to tell my daughter, "look at that shooting star" and she had time to look up from the back seat and witness it before it disappeared.  It definitely had me curious because I immediately went home and searched the local news stations and googled meteor showers. Thanks

Brian M.-Grayslake, IL:
On 10/04/2011 at approximately 7pm CST my wife and I were travelling Eastbound on Center Street (Cty A27) at Route 45 in Grayslake IL (60030) when we saw a blue/green fireball with a long trail descending at high speed.  I first noticed it at around 60 degrees above the horizon, almost straight east, and moving towards the horizon in a northeasterly direction.  It appeared to split into two pieces at about 40 degrees above horizon, with the smaller piece appearing to break off to the right from my perspective.  It then disappeared from my sight about 20 degrees above the horizon, just above the treeline from my perspective. We were located about 10 miles straight west from the western shore of Lake Michigan, almost equidistant between the heart of Milwaukee WI and Chicago IL.
I too thought it might be a fast moving plane that was crashing relatively nearby.  Really glad it wasn't!
Thanks for the great site!

Deanna C.-Columbus, OH:
I was traveling North on St. Rt. 315 North of Columbus, OH, facing the suburb of Delaware, OH, a few minutes after 8:00 p.m. on 10/4/11.  I saw a bright green light appearing to travel directly straight down from the sky toward the road in front of me.  Impossible to tell how far away, but it was very large.  I had thought it had to hit somewhere in Delaware, OH simply due to its size, but looking over these posts and the locations, I may be very mistaken.  Beautiful indeed, but I was pretty sure I was crazy.  :)

South Carolina, North Carolina Large Meteor Fireball 08SEP2011

ADDITIONAL REPORTS NEEDED !!!...Large Widely Seen Meteor Fireball North Carolina 08SEP2011

Email From:
Eric K.-North Topsail/Surf City, NC:
Not sure if this was a "fireball" or not.   Kinda looked like fireworks that never exploded.  I was sitting on the beach right near the border between North Topsail and Surf City, NC.  Saw the "fireball" far in the distance out at sea.  Moved a lot slower than a shooting star..... was maybe yellow or orange, can't remember.  First thought is that it could be a flare..... Camp Lejeune is nearby and we see helicopters fly over all the time, but we didn't hear or see any sort of helicopters, and if it was a flare from a ship at ocean, we didn't see it go up in the first place.

Cody C.-Greenville NC:
I saw a green flaming object falling from the sky at 7.57 pm 9-8-11 , as far as  i know just me another person saw and we are located in greenville, north carolina

Wendy C.-Siler City, NC:
I saw this same "fireball" as Eric and Cody. In fact, I live in Apex, NC and was driving home from Siler City, NC.  At the EXACT SAME TIME that Cody saw it - about 7:57 pm, I was passing by Pittsboro on Hwy 64 and saw it in the sky out in front.  I knew it wasn't a plane because the lights were clustered together. It moved left to right across the sky slowly, so I didn't really think it was a meteor.  My first two thoughts were either a flare, or a helicopter that was farther away than I realized.  I could see a mixture of colors flashing and when I went beneath the old 64 overpass, for a moment, I could completely discern a single red light and a green light.  Then suddenly, it just began to drop from the sky straight down, trailing a green streak behind it and then literally disappeared from sight. I heard nothing, saw no smoke...nothing.  However, as I continued to move foward, I did see what appeared to be 2 helicopters coming in the distance and one using its spotlight as if it were looking for something. I even considered it could be a hot-air balloon crash somehow because we have so many of those in this area.
 Wendy C. Apex, NC

i witnessed falling star/meteor/fireball 09/07/11 approx 08:10 pm. driving/facing east, fell from upper right to lower left. longest duration i've ever seen ( out of approx 12 to 15 lifetime sightings,...what can i say,  i've lived in the big city the majority of my  life). it had a very distinct, unusual green glow to it. there was actually a small fragment which broke off and fizzled off in a different direction.  when i got home and logged on facebook i saw a facebook friend who'd also seen it.

Braulio P.-Houston, TX:
I was driving down on Westhemier/Montrose towards dowtown when I saw this fire ball with a tail falling from the sky from south to northeast it looked like. It seemed very close. Kenneth W.-Clyde, TX:
On 9-7-11 @ 10:30ish My 14yr old son Dakota saw a large green fire ball out his bedroom window. It was about 30 deg. above the horizon. and about the size of a dime at arms length. He stated it was as bright as the full moon. It was traveling west to east at about 270 deg. to 100 deg.. It was partly cloudy here and he said it was be hind the clouds but that he could still see the light through the clouds. He said that it lasted about 5 seconds I was in another room in the house and did not here any noise or sonic booms. I was just wondering if maybe anybody else saw this. Thanks, Kenneth

Bob T.-Buffalo, TX:
Sitting outside of house looking south east. A large fireball appeared about 145 degrees SE and split into. I was on the cell phone & could hear a crackling sound. It seemed to come from object. Another resident  of Buffalo reported seeing it also.

BREAKING METEOR FIREBALL NEWS!!!

Large Long Duration North Texas Meteor Fireball ~5:40 A.M. 04SEP2011

Email From:
Steve J.-Richardson, TX:
(I found your email address from goggling fireball sighting)
I was sitting out on my back patio cooling down from my morning jog. It's darker then heck outside at 5:40 in the morning.... My whole backyard lit up... It lit up so much I thought a police helicopter might be over head even though I didn't hear it...
My patio is covered so I had stand up and walk a couple feet to look into the sky. I looked to the east and could see the falling meteor... It did another explosion and I watched the trail of falling debris a bit longer. AND this is after seeing my whole backyard light up.
As I'm facing East - it went from right to left....(south to north)
It would be interesting to know if anyone else saw it.
Steve R J.     thank you Steve! Any particular color? Thanks.

Billie Jean D.-Brookston, TX:
I live in Brookston, TX ( about 4 to 6 miles west of Paris,TX) I was outside around 5:30 am helping my mom and sister load stuff in the truck because they were going to set up at the flea market. I was standing next to my sister while she was talking to her husband when something caught my eye. I looked up and at first I thought I was watching a falling star but then I thought to myself falling stars are not green in color. Then my next thought was someone was shooting a firework off because it kind of had that look. But then I realized that it was to far up in the shy for a firework plus it never exploded. Like I said we live West of Paris, TX and I was facing west (I am not good with directions but I believe this is correct) and the object fell from western sky to the south. All I could say was "look look look look" and I think by the 4th to 5th look my sister, her husband, and my dad all saw it falling. From the time I saw it was about halfway across the sky when it looked like there was an explosion or something..... none of us could explain it. Also about 30 sec to 45 sec after it disappeared we saw another green light fall but it was much smaller ( or farther away) and it fell straight down. I know that sounds crazy but that is what we saw. By the time we went inside it was close to 6 am because I turned the TV on to CNN to see if something was going on. I would love to know what it was so if you find out please email me back..... Thanks       thank you Billie Jean! Will post any other info/imagery if it becomes available.

Mark M.-Fort Worth, TX:
I saw the same fireball that Steve J. witnessed.
I live south of Ft. Worth, and had just stepped onto my east porch when this extremely bright image on my deck came racing towards me. I looked up and saw this very large "green" meteor through my trees at about 60 degree elevation, just about due East. It continued downward for about 5 seconds (a long time) and broke into two pieces at about 25 degrees elevation. I waited for a sonic boom, but did not hear one.
This was the largest and brightest meteor I can recall seeing. Mark     excellent! thank you Mark!

Possible Large Green Meteor Fireball British Columbia, Canada 15AUG2011

Two Initial Reports Of A Possible Large Meteor Fireball Event BC Canada ~9:45-10:30 p.m. PDT 15AUG2011

Email From:
Horst U.-British Columbia Province, Canada:
Hello,
Was searching for the subject event and came across your website.
I was at home on the deck. It was a clear sky; the moon had not fully risen yet.
The object came from North-west, and while going South-east ( away from me ) the angle of the arc increased, i.e. it didn’t stay at the same height. It took about 4 seconds for the object to go ( what appeared to be ) almost vertically down when it reached my event horizon. My house is 350 meters above sea level.
There was no streak or smoke trail & no fragmentation.
The fire ball was extremely bright; I would say 20 times brighter than Venus.
Years ago, the international space station flew by ( west to east ) right after sunset. The space station was about the same size but not nearly as bright as the fire ball last night and also the apparent speed was much slower.
I established the trajectory by plotting the angle the house sits with respect to South ( using Google map close-up ), and added about 10 degrees because the object when it crossed over was not perpendicular to the street line ( equal the deck line ). In other words, it went a little bit to the left.
I would guess that the object hit the ground somewhere along the yellow trajectory line ( see attachment ).

I hope my observation is of interest to you.
Your response is greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Horst U

Large Green Florida Alabama Meteor Fireball Reported To ELPALLSKY 11AUG2011

Email From:
Anonymous-Sarasota, FL:
Huge falling star, 8/11/2011 about 10:40PM or a couple minutes later. Fell straight down, saw it looking west from Sarasota, Florida a lot of green with orange sparks near the end, I thought it was going to hit and I'd see a huge explosion!  thanks for your report!

Mike W.-Naples, FL:
Sighted it approx 10 pm Florida time, from Vanderbilt beach in Naples FL
Very bright, long tail lasted approx 3 seconds, fell straight down.
Regards, Mike W     thank you Mike!

Matt B.-Orlando FL:
Location: Orlando International Airport
Time: 22:37 (I looked at my work clock right away) Date 8/11/2011
Direction Witnessed: It was due West of me , maybe a few degrees South
Meteor Angle of descent: If I was looking at a clock, it came down at the 5 o'clock angle (left to right)
Color: orange, kind of burning up with some haze around it
Duration: maybe about 3 seconds, but I can't say that I saw the beginning of it. I did not see it burn out. It dissapeared behind distant trees. There was no explosion or impact flash. I would bet some stuff hit the ground however.
Size: it was about as big as a car's headlight viewed from 300 yards away
I was sitting in my chair at work facing West and saw this through the window. I did not hear any noise.     outstanding fireball report Matt. Thank you!

An Anonymous Witness-Melbourne, FL:
My son and I were in Melbourne, FL driving east; at first thought it was a falling star but it was huge -  a round. almost oval shape.  It started out bright white and as it fell closer to Earth it turned a glowing orange before it appeared to break apart.  We looked at the clock in the car immediately - it was 10:30 p.m.  Thanks to this site we now know what it was...pretty spectacular to witness; never seen anything like it!     thanks for further confirmation!

Jeff N.-Zephyrhills FL:
AUG. 11 2011 just around 10:30ish 11:00 pm
I was on my pourch on the phone, facing west stairing staight at the blue star getting bigger and, moveing what seemed to be almost striaght down. I saw it from just befor it got a tail for just a second. then the long orange red tail and very long appeared. their looked to be a little gap between the tail and blue ball.  it fell out of sight behind the tree line across the pasture. the whole event mabey 10 secounds it was so bright like a military night light flare or beacon like you see on TV. I really thought i would hear it hit. I jumped in the truck and drove to where i thought it should of hit. physicaly it looked large like a 55 gal barrel and the tail a quarter of the sky behind it.
I have seen alot off shooting stars and meteors and, this looked like nothing i had ever seen befor almost like if i could see details of it i could not see details but very cool .  where did it come down at?

Andy C.-Destin, FL:
From observation point, we saw it overhead at aprox halfway between 10-11 oclock position, and it streaked across most of the sky burning out at aprox halfway between 10-11oclock postion. As we picked it up, we saw a very large fireball looking like a large firework, aprox 1/3 the size of the (almost full-moon at that time). Large firey head and long tail, the main fireball did not look well formed, it was quite flattened and had several fingers of flames. Color was orange/red. The fireball burned across most of the sky and appeared to burn out aprox 2 fingers (at arms length) above the horizon.
No pictures, but wish we did, it was the largest fireball we have seen by far. Good luck.
Regards, Andy from Texas.

Calvin D.-Mobile, AL:
I agree almost the same as Andy C. of Destin, Fl. report. I was riding East at approximately 9:45 PM CST and saw it falling from about 11 o'clock position toward a south, south easterly direction . Very large head or ball and long firey tail . Very , Very brightorange and some greenish tint. The largest, brightest and most colorful meteor that I have ever seen in my 70 odd years.

Steve V.-Brandon, FL:
Last night, Thursday the 11th of Aug.,2011, I was driving on Hwy 60, Brandon, Florida around 10:36pm when I witness a bright whiteness flash in the Western hemisphere, then the meteor’s reddish hot tail disappeared as it entered the atmosphere.  It was awesome!
Steve V. AKA the_Christian

Josiah-Branford, FL:
We were driving south from Branford FL on hwy 349 around 10.30 yesterday 8-11-11 ,when we saw this fire ball to our left (east) flying from north to south. Size looked about ¼ size of a full moon. Started out fiery red, orange, then turned bright green before several smaller pieces broke off and it disappeared behind the trees in front of us still to our left. First saw it behind us at about 20 to 30 degrees high in the horizon, lasted bout 3 seconds before disappearing as though it might make it a ways south.
Hope this is interesting,
Josiah

Jodi M.-Dunnellon, FL:
My husband and I saw it about 10:30pm. It went over the house then strait into the ground just WSW of our location. We saw a huge red and yellow explosion but never heard a sound or felt anything. It came from the NW side headed WSW it had a huge long orange tail then it appeared to crash down close by from the sight of the explosion it lasted maybe 5 seconds then impact and the flash. The flash of light look like an red/orange/yellow bowl.

Gaye-Seminole, FL:
Witnessed a large object falling sw to nw with long, slow trail of bright orange and green, appeared to be falling into gulf. As it got closer to horizon, it went behind a cloud creating a bright flash of light as if lightening or explosion occurred. There was no sound.  It was so large and slow moving, at first I thought it might be a plane crash. It was not like anything I have seen before when viewing shooting stars or meteor showers.  The size, pace and brilliance was awesome.

Melody & Bruce C.-Deerpoint Reservoir, FL:
Hi -- I found the reports on your website of the fireball seen on 8/11/11.  I also saw it.  I live in the Bayhead area on the NE shore of Deerpoint Reservoir, north of Panama City and SW of Youngstown, FL.  It was approximately 9:40pm Central, and I can pinpoint the direction exactly because I was watching TV on my couch, and saw it through a small window 20 feet from my position.  I can take a compass heading directly from this vantage point...which interestingly is precisely due south.  I imagine with the number of reports from the Florida peninsula, a fairly accurate position could be triangulated.  It must have fallen into the Gulf.
The size of the object was approximately that of a dime held at arm's length, and it left a ragged trail of fire as it fell (disintegrating pieces?), from roughly an 11:30 position towards a 5:30 clock position.  I'm guessing that the trail would be 2" long if a ruler were held at arm's length.  It was very bright, and the color a deep yellow, almost orange.  The length of time I saw it was disappointingly short -- perhaps half a second.  It disappeared quickly at this low angle, and there are trees and a neighbor's house in that line of sight, so what the object did before I was able to see it, or after it disappeared, I can't say.

John E.-Unknown Location, FL:
Hi,I just accidentally stumbled across reports about the "Aug 11" Florida meteor while reading about the Perseid's shower. Just want to mention that I think I saw the meteor too, though my observations seems to differ some from some of the reports others made.  I’ve actually been wondering what I saw for the last couple of days.
I saw a bright, whitish circle which didn’t change colors, It was  maybe 1/3 the size of moon (dime sized, arm extended) and it zipped across the northern sky for maybe a second. I was facing north at the time and saw it at an angle above the horizon of around 70 or -80 degrees, I guess. it moved right to left (east to west) from apx 2 O’Clock to 10 O’clock. There was no tail, no visible debris, and no sound. The oddest thing that struck me is that it just disappeared rather than going to the horizon. It’s possible though that a cloud obscured it as it went west. It was quite bright, but more the brightness of the moon.  Unfortunately I don’t know the exact time since I didn’t have my watch or cellphone with me. I am guessing it was between 12:30 and 1:00 AM eastern time. (which would make the observation for the early morning of  8/12). It could have been as early as 23:30 though, It was late and I was walking the dog before going to bed. Regarding the color and brightness, I'm wondering if I saw it through a thin cover of clouds which might have washed out the color and hid the tail.  Like I said, it looked to me like a whitish circle, If it helps to triangulate the object, my location is Tampa, Florida. Any info you can share about this would help satisfy my curiosity about this.  It was a very exciting thing to see, even if it was so fast.

Leslie F.-On The Road, FL Panhandle:
The night of August 11 I was traveling between Destin, FL and Panama City Beach, FL heading east on Highway 98 and saw a huge fireball falling from the sky. Looking out the passenger side window the ball fell from the top left towards bottom right. It was incredibly bright with a tail behind it. The ball was a brilliant green as it broke apart and disappeared. From my view it looked at least half the size of the moon. It was the largest thing I'd ever seen fall from the sky.

Dewey V.-St. Augustine, FL:
I too witnessed this meteor on August 11th, around 10:30pm from St Augustine Florida, and have been wondering if anyone else saw it...DUH!!!!
I was bright orange and stood out very brightly against a full moon, appeared to be traveling NE to SW passing low and bright.

Large NY PA Meteor Fireball 10AUG2011

F.I.T.S. Inquiries And Email Confirmation...Large Significant Fireball Widely Seen Over NY, PA 10Aug2011 ~9:20 p.m. EDT

Email From:
Andy S.-Geneva, NY:
Coming home last night at 9:19pm ET traveling east toward Geneva NY I clearly saw a large fireball or meteor fall straight down right in front of me. The moon was to my right about 60 degrees, and the size of the fireball was about half the full moon's width, and nearly as bright. It was mostly white with a wispy trail but had a noticeable green core color with gold edging, very similar to what you'd expect from a falling fireworks display. But there was no fireworks show in the area, and this was a single light. It fell much slower than any shooting stars I've seen, hanging for what must have been a good 4 seconds before flaming out before touching the horizon. I would estimate it flamed out a fist's height at arm's length from the horizon; for a moment I expected it to come all the way to the horizon!   thank you Andy! First report....WE NEED OTHERS !!! mail to wxtx01@gmail.com

Large UK Meteor Fireball Reported To ELPALLSKY 15JUL2011

ELPALLSKY Reader Files Report Of A Large Fireball Witnessed Over England 02:48 UTC (GMT) 15JUL2011

E-mail From:
D. Thomas-Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England:
I was looking East, and the meteor was travelling from North to South on a level trajectory.  I watched it for approx. 5 seconds.  It didn't burn out and didn't look any diffferent when it was obscured from my view by buildings than it had when I first saw it.
Other info:  It appeared large-ish, but that could be deceptive and I couldn't tell if it was large and more distant than it appeared, or smaller and closer.   I didn't notice any colour (appeared white), but it had a short tail with some fire or sparks, and was low in the sky. The best I can do is tell you I am 5ft 3 inches tall, and looking over the top of a fence panel which is approx. 5ft 6 inches tall.  I was approx. 4 ft from the panel.  I guess that would put the height of the meteor at somewhere between 40 and 50 degrees?
I hope this is of some use to you although, from my not even amateur-ish description, I doubt it.  I would love to know if anyone else saw it though.
Kind regards.
D. Thomas     thank you D.!  Excellent report!  Anyone else in the UK see this fireball?

Email From:
Reeva A.-Ontario, Canada:
Hi, I witnessed a sighting on the night of july 12th, just after midnight (so technically the 13th I guess). I live in scarborough and I was walking home and for a split second saw this ball of green (looked like a firework) with a little red near its tail streak through the sky heading towards the east. I google searched randomly just to see if anyone else saw it and came across your site. I don't have much information, unfortunately, it literally just flew by in a second.

Adam L.-New York State:
I am located in Saratoga Springs, NY.  At around 11:30 or 11:45 PM I was outside and looked up and saw a fireball with a fairly long red tail streak across the sky from right to left.  It lasted only a second or two and then disappeared.

Cheryl D.-Upperco, MD:
Hi, We witnessed a bright meteor/fireball on July 12, 2011 at approximately 2200 EDT. It was first noticed in the NNE sky and descended towards the Eastern horizon. At about 30 degrees from the horizon, the object broke into 3 or more pieces and flared into a bright green object before burning out. The entire episode lasted about 5 seconds. Thanks!

Jill H.-NYC:
I saw a meteor last night at approximately 10pm (between 9:51pm and 10:07pm, but I believe it was right at 10pm) in Manhattan, New York City, NY. I was laying in a lounge chair on my building's roofdeck in Manhattan (14th Street, 6th/7th Avenues), looking straight up at the sky (and on a mobile phone call which lasted 17 mins). My body was facing to the south of Manhattan, but I was lying flat on my back looking almost straight up (~90 degrees).  What was clearly a meteor/shooting star, flashed across the sky, slightly to the east of where I was looking straight up in the sky, but relatively high up in the sky (maybe about 20-30 degrees east of where I was looking??). I believe the meteor moved from above and streaked down towards the north-east direction (but it might have gone in the opposite direction, i.e., coming from the northeast).  I found your website report after Googling "meteor over new york july 2011".  Glad I'm not alone, and finally have confirmation of what I know I clearly saw!  It was fantastic.  A bright burst, then moving in a bright line before trailing out. The line/trail was not that long. It lasted for only one to two seconds at most (possibly less).  I believe the color was relatively white.  I exclaimed, "Oh, my G-d!" interrupting my phone call when I saw the meteor flash and streak across the sky. Would have missed it if I hadn't already been looking up. I asked the person on my phonecall to hold on, so that I could take a second to process what I had just seen. Hope these details help. I know I sound like an amateur! Please contact me directly if you want more info or if you have more info to share!  Best, Jill

Mike G.-Brooklyn, NY:
I was driving w/b on park ave @ kent ave in brooklyn N.Y. and just happened to look up to see a greenish color meteor going across the sky in sort of a n/e to s/w direction. The meteor seemed to break up into three pieces it was some what large I did not see any train and it just seemed to disapear after it broke up.  mikey g

Lee B.-Ontario, Canada:
Google searching for what I saw last night I came across this website. I figured I would send an email explaining what I saw. Roughly around 12:10 am July 13th I saw a bright blue flame streaking almost straight down but it was diagonal to the South, East. Amazing sight, this is the second one I have seen in my life. Last time was about 15 years ago.

Anthony W.-Washington DC:
I was looking N or NNE at the night sky in Montrose Park in Washington DC at around 10:30 pm and saw a round white object streak quickly down from left to right, and before it disappeared it appeared to break off into three separate objects. The initial object appeared less than a 10th the size of the moon, which was SSE in the sky. I assumed that it must have been not too far from earth, as it is was so bright in a sky where there was a thin cloud cover, and where I couldn't see any stars. The entire episode lasted less than two seconds.

Nancy O.-Barnegat Bay N.J.:
Looking northeast from Tuckerton... very bright, very long meteor - yellowish.

Zak F.-Washington D.C.:
i saw it tonight in friendship heights in washington dc on top of "deal hill" where the radio towers are.  there were a bunch of teenagers drinking on top of the hill but they all had their backs to it. i have never seen anything as large, as long, as colorful, in my life, or in the movies

Pamela R.-UK:
On Tuesday, June 12th I saw a LARGE football-sized BRIGHT GREEN ?fireball shoot across the sky, just above ASDA in ASHFORD, KENT, England - only yards from the west-facing front of the shop. My till slip says 2.19 a.m. PJR     thank you Pamelal!

Tuba A.-Belgium:
At 12 July 2011, around 3 o'clock ( i don't know the exact time anymore)
I saw a hugeee meteor, that just kept chaning of color, in green red, yellow and blue.
I saw it in the norther direction, It had a big tale.
I'm not sure of what i saw, but I've never seen something like this and I really want to know what it was, because I couldn't find any information on the internet.
Excuse me for my bad English, I hope to get as soon as possible an answer of you.
Thank you     thank you Tuba! No satellite or rocket reentries indicated so this likely was a fairly large rock from space.

Julia B.-Central UK:
Hi. This won't help you find it but i saw this meteor from a little village in the centre of England. It was fluorescent blue seemed massive.
lasted about 3 to 4 seconds and appeared that close I waited for the explosion.
Wow never seen any thing quite like it. I was facing due south at about 2.15 am to 2.20 am this morning. It went from upper right to lower left.
Just wondered if it actually hit earth.  Happy hunting.
Ju     thank you Julia! Debris from fireballs this size sometimes impact the Earth. Not yet sure whether this did.

Nigel S.-Isle Of Thanet, England:
Just found your site, because i was confused about what i saw last night, 12th July 2011, at around 02.30 am. I had just woke to make a cup of tea and walked inot my kitchen, opend the roller bling and saw this golf ball sized green coloured ball, with a slight tail, shoot past. Absolulty no sound, the sky was cloudy so the fireball looked like a luminescent ball. Its speed was tremendous. Judging by the tree in front of my back window and how quickly it came into view and then was out if sight. My kitchen window faces south west sp the ball was travelling NE  to SW. I live in South East England, in Kent, on the iSle of Thanet. Judging by, what i think are the sightings from Florida, this may have been the same object. I'm just so glad someone else saw it and i have someone to tell.
Thank you     Great report Nigel, and thank you!

Hello!!! Yes, I saw this!!!! I can't believe it!! I thought it was a firework, but it was too high, too quiet, and lasted too long!!! I couldn't believe my eyes!! No one believed me when I said I saw the BRIGHTEST shooting star EVER, so I decided to Google it and found your blog!!! WOW!! I didn't realize it was a meteor fireball!! Anyway, for details....I live in Seminole, FL (Pinellas County). I took the dogs out about 9:50-ish PM EDT on Jun 20th, 2011; the fireball came from the west and was traveling east across the sky. I did not hear any noises. It was BIG and very BRIGHT, and FAST!!! It was a bluish-green in color!! I kept waiting in hopes of seeing another one!! It was PHENOMENAL!!! I thought I was dreaming and didn't really see what I thought I saw!! LOL! Thanks, Angela B.

S. Ellston-Anna Maria Island, FL:
I witnesses a meteor on June 20, 2011 at approximately 9:45 pm. I was on Anna Maria Island, Florida. I noticed it to the northeast, moving from left to right.  At one point a sizeable chunk appeared to break off and slow quickly in the tail.  It appeared to land east from Anna Maria. Meteor was bright. Maybe white tinged with green or blue. Orange tail.

Carol G.-Sarasota FL:
Hello , Three of us saw a fireball or a shooting star it seemed to come very close and then burned up June 20 2011 around 9:50 p.m. EDT. Has any one else see this tonight?
Thanks,  Carol G.

Rev. Carol R.C.-Marion County, FL:
From The Villages in Lake and Marion County in Florida.  We saw the shooting star at about 9:50 p.m.  It was bright yellow with a huge fireball and a tail of light that extended a good distance behind.  I heard no sound.  It was clearly visible for approximately 10 seconds.  It moved from right to left with a downward (fairly steep) trajectory.  I was facing southeast.  It was an incredible sight.

Large Northeast US Coast Green Meteor Fireball Indicated By FITS 29MAY2011

Green Possibly Large Fireball Event Seen From Many East Central-Northeast US Coast Witnesses 29MAY2011
E-mail From:

Katie U.-VA:
My husband and I were driving in 2 separate vehicles on the night (11:00 pm) of Sunday May 29, 2011 on Rt. 288 northbound in Midlothian Virginia and independently saw a neon green fireball with a red/orange tail in the sky traveling from the southwest to the northwest.  When we got home we both asked the other about it. I just googled that information and saw your web page for that night and I'm amazed!

Greg H.-PA:
Location 20 miles east of Pittsburgh PA…around 10:00 pm EST. large green halo fireball, traveling east to west, descending at ~315 deg (360 being parallel with horizon). Gave the appearance of descending firework remnant, but traveling at high velocity. If viewing distance was known, could approximate velocity of descent

Slainte 227 Hampden, Maine 8:30-9:00 PM:
sky not dark, lime -greenish bright light with trail, no sound, we were facing south, object moved from left to right lasting 10 seconds approximately. Seen by two of us.

John L.-West Virginia:
Around 11:00PM EDT on Sunday night 29 May we saw a large meteor, travelling roughly South to North.  First appeared perhaps 20 deg East of zenith, rapidly became brighter, head appeared in two parts and brilliant blue-white with hint of green, tail appeared reddish. It disappeared over mountain to out North.  It was bright enough to illuminate the ground
We are near Marlinton, WV, USA. We saw in the hours before and after this event several small unremarkable meteors travelling on the same apparent heading. Where can I find out more about this event?  Did any of it reach the ground?     haven't heard of any rocks on the ground yet. thank you!

David H.-Brinklow Maryland:
last night while checking out the Amazing fireflies, we saw a HUGE green fireball in the Western sky.  It looked like a large firework moving from the upper southern sky heading to the lower northern sky (left to right).  It was around 10:30 pm.  A very brilliant sight!  We didn't notice any noises associated with it though.

R.M. & Associates-North Carolina:
Me and my wife also saw this odd color falling star, meteor or
whatever you call it.  We were headed south on HWY 54 in North
Carolina around Saxapahaw NC and was able to view this for about 7
seconds or longer.
Never has a falling star or shooting star taken this long to go out of
eye sight.

Dylan V.-Maine:
I was sitting outside Empire Dine and Dance last night at approx. 9:30 when I saw a fireball in the sky.  it looked as if it were becoming present at a normal flight hight of the planes that leave the airport in south portland and fly over.  Two of us saw it and noted it's trajectory.  it did not make it to the other side of the building, probably burned out.  it was a bright white/orange/almost electric color.  it came in heading in a north-westerly direction.

Patrick S.-Oak Grove Theater, Verona, VA:
We were in the middle of a performance when it happened. We actors heard the crowd murmuring and talking as it happened and after the show most of the audience reported a bright and spectacular meteor(?) arcing from audience right to audience left in the sky above the set on stage.  It is an outdoor stage and to be seen above the set would put it in an east to west direction at least midway up from the horizon in the northern part of the sky.  They were taping the performance last night so it might be possible it was caught on video.  We guessed the time to around 9:50 to 10:20 EST but don't know for certain because we were mid scene when it happened.     PLEASE forward any video to wxtx01@gmail.com Thank You!

Cathy R.-Danvers MA:
May 29, 2011, around 9 PM, 5 people saw orange balls. first one, then two closer together, then 4-5 more moving from southeast, about 20 degrees above horizon, in an arc toward the north to about 35 degrees above the horizon before they disappeared behind the treeling about 30 feet from the east-facing porch we were seated on...they were larger than the largest I've seen Venus when it is low on the horizon and as bright...they moved silently and at a smooth steady and regular pace...not like anything I've ever seen before...what were they?     fragmenting meteor/fireball called a "bolide". Thank you!

David L.-Duxbury, MA:
Last night may 29th about 8:30pm we were outside on our farm which is in Duxbury MA.
We are on the bay and have an unobstructed view of the ocean.
We saw an object that looked like a meteor going north from the south; we were looking due east. The color of the trail was dark aqua color; it lasted approximately 4 seconds. The flight pattern was nearly parallel with the ground and the horizon. At the end of the trail the color turned from green to bright red and disappeared. We live in a rural area with expansive views.

May 30 2011, 3:51 PM (guest): On Sunday, May 29, 2011, at approximately 9:00, my boy friend and I were at hampton beach when I saw what appeared to be an unusually large shooting star shoot across the sky. It was very large, and very bright - impossible to miss! It wasn't as fast as a normal meteor, and it appeared to disintegrate around the horizon line. I remember it being very large and bright, but unsure of a color. Totally amazed me, and very curious as to what it was. 9:00 at night *

Large Green Meteor Fireball Nevada, Arizona 30APR2011...

Update On Cornwall AZ Report From Brenda H.:
The most exciting thing that has happened to me in a long while occurred as I was returning home a bit ago (Saturday night 8:30 pm April 30-2011.) I saw a bright flash to the side of me and looked over and lo and behold there was a large bright green/gold/orange orb falling quickly to the ground, (like a falling star would appear) but it was big and the first thing I thought of was it must be a meteorite,  but then my next thought was, could it be a UFO? it disappeared behind the hill and I heard no crash nor did I see an explosion. I don't know if meteorites have colors like that, but it was a brilliantly colored green (almost emerald) with traces of orange and yellow. There really wasn't a tail, the orange/gold colors were surrounding it.  If I were comparing it to the size of a shooting star I'd say that it was magnified by that size by at least 10 times and it was in a NE direction ( I was facing the Sedona area) rapidly falling towards the ground when it was no longer visible because of the hills.
Blessings,
Brenda

Stormie Ulibarri-Western NM:
Hi there.  On April 30th, 2011, my brother and I were traveling West on the 60 from Socorro, NM heading home to Arizona.  The time was approximately 9ish, not positive.  We weren't far past the VLA, approximately 50 miles.  We were driving extremely slow due to the massive amount of elk on the road.  I looked up and saw what I thought was a falling star and pointed it out to my brother.  This did not burn out the closer it got, like most do.  It stayed fully illuminate, had a tail and appeared close enough to see the gases fuming off of it.  It was bright white with blue.  It travel West to North as indicated by the Albuquerque sighting on your site.  It did impact, as we witnessed a flash of light, most closely compared to the bright flash of a camera.  Over the tree tops after impact, a red light could be seen and then another. Don't know if this was fire or what not.  I've read a lot of accounts on the sighting and I wonder if we are all talking about more than one meteorite.  I witnessed approximately six falling stars that night, or more correctly meteor showers.  Possible more than one hit.  I would swear this one hit in New Mexico and not far from where we were at.  It was close enough to scare the hell out of me.  Hope this helps.

Sarah and Patrick:
We live in Las Vegas, Nevada and just saw a huge, bright green shooting star with a long trail behind it. At first we thought it was a plane crashing because it was so large and bright green. It was amazing!! This happened at approximatly 8:40 p.m. PST on April 30, 2011.

Rusty In Sedona, AZ:
last night in Sedona at a star party we saw a very large fireball raise low towards the ground and after it disappeared over the mountain there was a flash like it had hit and exploded. It was amazing. So big.

Christopher Hunt-Las Vegas, NV:
Driving back from picking up Pizza last night, I saw a Greenish meteor over Las Vegas.
I live in the Southwest part of town with a clear view of the strip.  I had just turned and was driving East towards the strip in a residential area and saw the meteor fly over me at a slight angle going roughly from southwest to northeast.  The track went over the strip (from my vantage point) towards Lake Mead.  I then saw it break into at least 3 pieces that then tailed toward the ground.  The light at the point that it broke seemed to be a green flash.

Seen in Cornville AZ last night about 8:30pm April 30, 2011.
It was in the NE sky over by the Sedona area. It fell fast and disappeared behind the hilly terrain. An amazing site. It was like a falling star but very big. No sounds were made.

David Russel-Arizona:
I was driving north on I17 around mile marker 272 in Northern Arizona around 8:45pm. Saw the object seem to drop out of the sky heading quickly northwest and then disappear over the mountainous terrain, only saw it for a couple of seconds. I remember green, my wife says there was some orange at the tail.

Sarah E.-Las Vegas NV:
Ten minutes ago my husband and I saw the biggest brightest green shooting star/meteor ever!  It lasted a really long time and was the largest brightest we have ever seen.
