Hi, I witnessed a sighting on the night of july 12th, just after midnight (so technically the 13th I guess). I live in scarborough and I was walking home and for a split second saw this ball of green (looked like a firework) with a little red near its tail streak through the sky heading towards the east. I google searched randomly just to see if anyone else saw it and came across your site. I don't have much information, unfortunately, it literally just flew by in a second.
Adam L.-New York State:
I am located in Saratoga Springs, NY. At around 11:30 or 11:45 PM I was outside and looked up and saw a fireball with a fairly long red tail streak across the sky from right to left. It lasted only a second or two and then disappeared.

Hi, We witnessed a bright meteor/fireball on July 12, 2011 at approximately 2200 EDT. It was first noticed in the NNE sky and descended towards the Eastern horizon. At about 30 degrees from the horizon, the object broke into 3 or more pieces and flared into a bright green object before burning out. The entire episode lasted about 5 seconds. Thanks!
Jill H.-NYC:
I saw a meteor last night at approximately 10pm (between 9:51pm and 10:07pm, but I believe it was right at 10pm) in Manhattan, New York City, NY. I was laying in a lounge chair on my building's roofdeck in Manhattan (14th Street, 6th/7th Avenues), looking straight up at the sky (and on a mobile phone call which lasted 17 mins). My body was facing to the south of Manhattan, but I was lying flat on my back looking almost straight up (~90 degrees). What was clearly a meteor/shooting star, flashed across the sky, slightly to the east of where I was looking straight up in the sky, but relatively high up in the sky (maybe about 20-30 degrees east of where I was looking??). I believe the meteor moved from above and streaked down towards the north-east direction (but it might have gone in the opposite direction, i.e., coming from the northeast). I found your website report after Googling "meteor over new york july 2011". Glad I'm not alone, and finally have confirmation of what I know I clearly saw! It was fantastic. A bright burst, then moving in a bright line before trailing out. The line/trail was not that long. It lasted for only one to two seconds at most (possibly less). I believe the color was relatively white. I exclaimed, "Oh, my G-d!" interrupting my phone call when I saw the meteor flash and streak across the sky. Would have missed it if I hadn't already been looking up. I asked the person on my phonecall to hold on, so that I could take a second to process what I had just seen. Hope these details help. I know I sound like an amateur! Please contact me directly if you want more info or if you have more info to share! Best, Jill

Google searching for what I saw last night I came across this website. I figured I would send an email explaining what I saw. Roughly around 12:10 am July 13th I saw a bright blue flame streaking almost straight down but it was diagonal to the South, East. Amazing sight, this is the second one I have seen in my life. Last time was about 15 years ago.
Anthony W.-Washington DC:
I was looking N or NNE at the night sky in Montrose Park in Washington DC at around 10:30 pm and saw a round white object streak quickly down from left to right, and before it disappeared it appeared to break off into three separate objects. The initial object appeared less than a 10th the size of the moon, which was SSE in the sky. I assumed that it must have been not too far from earth, as it is was so bright in a sky where there was a thin cloud cover, and where I couldn't see any stars. The entire episode lasted less than two seconds.
