ARIZONA FRAGMENTING FIREBALL 31MAY2012 Captured By 3 All Sky Cameras

Email From:
Carol W.-Phoenix, AZ
My fiancee and I saw this meteorite fall on our way home tonight. We were traveling northbound on the 51 fwy in North Phoenix around 9:20 pm this evening. It was definitely between 9:10 and 9:30 pm. It appeared to travel from west to east heading possibly north.  It was very bright and we watched it break into three pieces which quickly turned from bright to dark.  It was very bright and seemed close.  If you gauge 12 o'clock as due north, straight in front of our car,  then I would say it was in the 11 o'clock position.  Not sure how to explain. Quite brilliant and large. I hope this is helpful. Please let us know if you have any questions.   thank you Carol for this report...Others??...email us at wxtx01@gmail.com

Breaking Meteor Fireball News...Phoenix AZ Bright Green Meteor Fireball 15OCT2011

Email From:
Andrew V.-Phoenix AZ:
I was in my car driving southbound in Phoenix, Arizona and stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road. (about 8 miles to the west of downtown Phoenix)  I just happened to catch the last few seconds of this event as it caught my attention out the driver's side window of my car.  The fireball was travelling from west to east to the southeast of my location just before 11pm (arizona and pacific time).  As I watched the fireball for about 4 seconds it appeared to be falling and went from bright green to gone and appeared to "fizzle out" somewhere over Downtown Phoenix or just to the south of the downtown area (which would be about 8 miles to the east and one mile south of where I was at the time.

I came home a few minutes later and found nothing on the local news websites until this came up on google.

Whatever the object was and where ever it began I do not know but It definitely appeared to come down or break up over the metro Phoenix area to the south or east of the downtown area.  Where I was is about 8 miles due west of the airport and the large jets line up on their approach vectors to head straight east to the runways.  There was at least one large passenger jet several thousand feet up on a landing approach and this fireball was in front of them so I cannot imagine the pilots or passengers not seeing it also.  There ware several more aircraft in the approach pattern several miles behind them to the west and north who would have also likely seen this object, so there may have been something on record with the air traffic control at Sky Harbor International Airport or possibly the FAA also.
I hope some more information of this is forthcoming as the is the first time I have ever observed a meteorite or other object streaking across the sky before, it was exciting!  (If you find anything out please let me know...)
Andrew V     thank you for the heads up on this event Andrew !!

Response to Question From ELPALLSKY...
Q: How low on the horizon did visible flight end?
A: I really dont know an exact measurement, but my understanding of this is that If I were to put an imaginary giant protractor in front of me with 0* being on the east horizon and 90* being straight above me the object would have been around 65-70 degrees in the sky towards the south east from where I was (facing directly south in my vehicle). There appeared to be a few small 'sparks' coming off the tail of this object which is how i knew which direction it was moving and in the front was the green fireball.  As I said I only caught the final few seconds of the object before it just seemed to burn out like a spent firework.    The object appeared to be coming down towards the ground as it disappeared and the area in which it disappeared was still clearly in my field of vision so I know it did not just go over the horizon or behind a building as it was still up in the sky...
If you have any other question let me know.     thanks Andrew, I will!

Jim P.-Chandler, AZ 12:15 p.m. MST
October 15, 2011 Chandler Az. I had observed a green fireball moving from west to east while in my back yard. It was a slow moving meteor aprox 3 seconds and was low in altitude compared to your average meteor. It was bright like a firework with a tail and slower than your average meteor. The location was south east of Dobson Rd & Ray Rd.
Jim     confirmation! Thank you Jim.

Phillip J.-Phoenix, AZ:
Hello, I googled 'Phoenix Meteor October 15' and found your website.
My wife and I were headed East on the 202 San Tan Freeway around the Kyrene exit when we saw the fireball that appeared to be moving easterly downward (from our perspective it was moving towards earth but headed in an easterly direction.)
I cannot be exactly sure of the time, but it was around midnight (so almost 10/16)
It reminded me of burning magnesium, it was very bright and then just disappeared before it would have hit the horizon.  It appeared to be above Chandler, AZ from our perspective at that time.

At about 1:30 to 2:00 a.m. Arizona time I saw a fireball in the sky. It went north across the I40 approximately 10 miles from the New Mexico border. When I stopped at the border welcome center I observed a bright object in the southern sky that looked as if it was moving from side to side. Thought it was strange. I have video of the second incident, but it is hard to see.

Hello Elp Allsky.
Was out stargazing two mornings ago, between 3:00 and 4:00 am in the morning, sitting on the back porch facing due north.  Saw the whole sky suddenly light up this bright blue green that cast moving shadows across the ground.  At first I thought a firework of some kind, but thought it odd that I heard absolutely no sound at all, no boom, no bang, no sizzle, no sound at all.  It was eerily silent actually.  And when I looked up, I saw the thing streaking across the sky from behind me to the south and slightly off to my right.  It appeared to be heading due north, and the tail was still behind the house when I saw it break up into about three or four chunks, I would say approximately somewhere around Aguilar or Walsenburg, CO, but perhaps as far north as Pueblo or Colo. Springs.  The streak lasted about 3 or 4 seconds, then about 30 seconds after I saw it break up, I heard a distant boom.  Have heard nothing else about it, until now, as I went searching for other sightings of the event on Google.  This is the third time in my life that I've had a sighting, all in this same area, but this was absolutely the most beautiful & exciting, and the closest too, it appeared to come in pretty low. Wish someone had been there with me to share the experience! :) happy
Sincere thanks,

First Of 2 Tucson AZ Fireballs 14MAY2011

Emails From:

Steve, Lisa & Jenna G.-Tucson AZ:
Wanted to let you know Lisa, Jenna and myself witnessed the “Tucson Fireball” night before last. We were out walking at dusk and saw a bright flash out of the corner of our eyes.  In the northern sky at about 30 degrees we saw a meteor that lasted approximately 4 to 5 seconds and broke into two distinct pieces as the flames diminished.  The path seemed to be towards the southeast.  I would call it a brilliant white with a bit of blue to it.  We did not observe any sounds.  I opened my phone and recorded the time to be exactly 2000hrs mountain standard time.  A very punctual rock.   thank you Steve, Lisa and Jenna...fine example of a good fireball report!

Rosella T. In Tucson AZ:
Hi.  It was Saturday night around 8 pm on May 14, 2011 that I was out on my north facing balcony here in Tucson, AZ, when I saw a huge fireball.  It seemed to be very close and about the size of a compact car.  It was bright yellow and it seemed to have a red ring in between the ball and its long tail.  It was going horizontally from west to east and was not high up in the sky.  I saw it clearly because it was not going extremely fast.  It got lost behind trees and I turned to look at the moon and it seemed that this fireball was a lot closer in proximity than the moon.  What was this fireball??

From The Chatbox:

Jamie (guest): My husband and I both saw what looked like a meteor/fireball last night. We were in the center of the Tempe campus of ASU and were looking up and to the east. It looked so huge that my husband commented that it looked like it could have landed in Apache Junction. It was almost exactly at 8pm when we saw it.

Comments:
Naked eye observation
Two observers, ages 57 and 12.
I am an amature astronomer.
No cloud cover at time of observation.
City lights.
Observers had been outside for 1/2 hour so our vision was dark adapted.

Apparant diameter of fireball:
Start: bright Venus
End : 3/4 diameter of full moon

At the time the observation was made the moon was visible, with parameters
(from Sky View Café set to my coordinates)
Azimuth : 14° 14' 12''
Altitude: 42° 38' 56''
Magnitude: -12.0
Illuminated fraction: 92.9%
Angular diameter: 33.39'

As the moon was visible at the time of my observation,
I have confidence in brightness and size comparisons relative to full moon.
Thanks for sharing this report John!

On May 14, 2011 I say a fireball in El Paso Texas. I was facing west between 11:45pm and 12:00am when i looked up and say a bright red fireball streak across the sky and go behind the franklin mountains. I didn't hear any noise and the fireball was pretty large in size. I don't know if it was a comet, meteor,  or what? Can you validate what i say? Contact me with any questions on what i saw.
Andrea P. In Tucson, AZ:
Hi I was at a party last night in downtown Tucson, Arizona when I saw the fireball (maybe 10:30 or 11?)  I worked teaching astronomy for years in very dark skies (compared to urban Tucson at near full moon!)  but I have NEVER seen anything so spectacular. I saw it in the eastern sky, moving from south to north. At first it was white light, getting brighter and brighter and leaving a trail, but then it burst into multi-colored light and several pieces (10?), each of which burned in twinkling colors.  It was SO bright! most people at the party thought it was some sort of firework a neighbor had set off. (you were looking for descriptions for elp allsky, right?)
no pics, sadly!

Scottsdale az facing south.
huge trail of fire, then burst into smaller pieces that continued to burn and circulate (like fireworks!)  they kept falling to the ground.  We thought a plane caught on fire and was breaking apart!
Email From Jeremy S. In Scottsdale, AZ...
I was taking a walk tonight in Scottsdale, Arizona around 8:48pm on 4/8/2011. I was walking south and I saw this fireball shoot through the sky directly in front of me heading southeast. The fireball to me did not look like a round object at all. It was more in the shape of a triangle. It then disappeared behind some large trees and as I ran to find it again, I saw firework like explosions off in the distance. When I first saw the fireball I thought it was a plane but the shape was so odd and moving much more quickly then a plane. I would describe the firework like explosions in the sky like fireflies in a jar!!!
APreC8Life Writes...I saw several fireballs on April 8, 2011 @ 8:51 PM. From my home in Scottsdale, they seemed to be over the Tempe, Az area, From my usual viewpoint, that too is the flight pattern to/from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. I first saw one and wasn't sure what I was seeing. I continued to watch and saw several others. It was amazing. They actually looked like balls of fire with tail trails.
