FITS Inquiries Indicating Widely Seen Fireball Over Pacific NW At 21:25 PDT 04JUN2011
Email From:
Jonathan L.-Seattle, WA:
I was heading Northbound on I-5 from downtown Seattle to Lynnwood at around 9:30 PM PST on Saturday June 4th, and it took all I had not to crash my car! SO amazing!!

Jann Perez-Puget Sound, WA:
At first we thought this was a jet plume but the object has a definite "head and tail."  We viewed it unaided and then through 16x50 binoculars.  It should be visible in Bellingham and Vancouver, BC.  It looks like a fireball but that could be an effect from the setting sun.  Our last, sighting was at 21:25 PDT.  Please advise the nature of the object.

Follow-up: Jann Perez-Puget Sound, WA:
The sighting reminded me of Hale Bop (sp), however, last night's object was lower in the sky and brighter.  The object was moving where as Hale-Bop seemed to be just hanging in the sky.  We get lots of planes over our house.  We are on Puget Sound looking toward the Olympic Mountains, and SeaTac is just to the east of us.  Please advise if you find an answer.

Today is July 3rd and I found this site as I swear I just seen something like a fireball high in the sky around 9:20 pm in the northwest sky. I am in Tacoma and you could see it in the sky looking over the Olympic peninsula. I stepped out on the back door step and the sun was setting with a slight pink glow but higher up I could see a clear sharp orange glowing line. It was not connected to anything and looked as if it was high and far away. I went back in to grab binoculars and it had already moved down in to the horizon quit a bit. It also had thickened. I ran around the house to the other side and it had moved again this time it looked just alike a glowing fireball with a cloud of glowing orange trailing behind. The fireball was separate kind of like an exclamation point. Eventually the trail became even more billowing and sank below the horizon where I could not see it anymore. It was definitely not a firework. It lasted to long. It looked as it was not moving but if you looked away and back you realized it had moved. I was able to get a couple of neighbors to see it also.
