So, it took me a while, but here is the info:

I left the Hertz garage at George Bush Int. at 11:08, says my receipt.  About half an hour later, heading toward Woodlands on I45, just south of Spring.  So driving  about 5 degrees west of north, I spotted the lit object falling slightly eastward from straight down.  I recall it being an orange color before it disappeared behind trees or a freeway ramp.

I was traveling east towards Weatherford,Tx on June14,2011 around 11:30 pm on I-20 when me and my wife both saw what appeared to be a meteor streak across the sky directly in front of us and break apart right before impacting the ground. It was traveling from the SE to NW. We were around mile marker 290 around Baird,Texas . I've seen meteors/falling stars before but  they were always streaking across the sky. This was the closest i've ever seen one and it appeared to actually impact the earth not burn out in the night sky like the ones i'd seen before.It was an amazing sight. We were traveling back from Colorado on vacation and i decided to search the internet and see if anyone else saw what we saw and thats when i ran across your site.   thank you Joe!

11:34 PM Central Standard time Tuesday June 14, just saw a pretty good sized fire ball come from the south heading North North West. I am located 30 miles north of George Bush Intercontinental Airport. I am just slightly west of city limits of Conroe, TX. Looked as though it fell in-line with the south/north route of I-45. White orange in color. Clear FLAME trail behind it, made no sound.   excellent report Julie. Thank you!

I saw what looked like a shooting star and as it dissapeared it looked like a green burst. I did have sunglasses on so it could have been a different color. I was at the TGIF at Litchfield & Mcdowll. It was slightly West of us heading North. Did not hit ground.

I witnessed a bright daytime meteor from the east Phoenix suburb of Tempe at 13:33 local time June 8 2011.  The tract was due West from my position, streaking almost straight down and about 10 degrees toward the North. Meteor had a bright lime green color, but I was wearing brown sunglasses so don’t know true color, and displayed a short tail, but left no visible trail in a  bright sky.  Did not reach the ground, faded out about 20 degrees above the horizon.  The Phoenix near solstice mid day sky is very bright, and meteor had additional “wielding torch” brightness for about 2 seconds, so same meteor at night may have qualified as a fireball??? Randall C.    Randall...to be daylight visible is an automatic "fireball" (brighter than Venus) qualification. Any fragmentation or sounds? THANK YOU!

Response: In response to your inquiry for additional details of the daylight green fireball over Phoenix, AZ on 8 June 2011, I saw no fragmentation, but the meteor did rapidly increase in brightness at the end of its tract before rapidly fading away.  I heard no sound and felt no vibration.  From my position at Eliot Rd and the 101, the initial tract was obscured by overhead trees but I saw the last approx 4 seconds.  The meteor maintained a slow steady speed and a very bright lime green color throughout its duration.   From the reports and locations by Jolene H. and Kristi R., my (very rough) triangulation suggests the meteor entered the atmosphere over central western Arizona and descended at a 60 to 70 degree angle East - North – East until it flared brighter and burned out in the denser atmosphere just north of  White Tank Mountain.  Fragmentation may have occurred but been obscured by the bright daytime sky. Incidentally, I witnessed a spectacular nighttime fireball in July 1971 during a midnight Boy Scout hike at Camp Geronimo, AZ, that shed numerous fragments and was bright enough to leave moving shadows of trees and scouts on the ground.  It took 30 minutes for the shimmering silver trail to fade away.  I heard a soft real-time whooshing sound, but am uncertain how that can be considering the speed of sound and distance to the meteor.  Anyway, I feel privileged to have witnessed both nighttime and daylight fireball meteors.

I witnessed this fireball falling to the north of Phoenix.
I was facing directly north at 39th Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Rd.  To my eyes
the color was silver blue, like a welding torch. It was VERY bright,
surprising for the daytime.  Due to an obstructed view I did not see it's
full descent.  I had no time on me but it was shortly before 2pm on
wednesday June 9 .  It appeared to be descending from west to east at about
a 60 degree angle to the ground.  I heard no sound, nor did I feel any

I saw large -very large -blueish white trail- with blue glow, fall in western sky over edmond oklahoma around 11:30pm central time. Lasted 5-10 seconds, went west to northwest at 45• angle - seemed to burst into flames of the most magnificent blue i had ever seen. I thought it was a plane falling from sky, it was so dramatic. After it entetered earths atmosphere was when it exploded & lit up like a blue fireball-as big as a plane ( by comparison)-no sound- disappeared after white & blue explosion. Breathtaking!

I was heading Northbound on I-5 from downtown Seattle to Lynnwood at around 9:30 PM PST on Saturday June 4th, and it took all I had not to crash my car! SO amazing!!

Jann Perez-Puget Sound, WA:
At first we thought this was a jet plume but the object has a definite "head and tail."  We viewed it unaided and then through 16x50 binoculars.  It should be visible in Bellingham and Vancouver, BC.  It looks like a fireball but that could be an effect from the setting sun.  Our last,sighting was at 21:25 PDT.  Please advise the nature of the object.

Follow-up: Jann Perez-Puget Sound, WA:
The sighting reminded me of Hale Bop (sp), however, last night's object was lower in the sky and brighter.  The object was moving where as Hale-Bop seemed to be just hanging in the sky.  We get lots of planes over our house.  We are on Puget Sound looking toward the Olympic Mountains, and SeaTac is just to the east of us.  Please advise if you find an answer.

According to NASA's SPACEWEATHER.COM a solar wind stream is buffeting Earth's ionosphere and is producing Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights), and will likely do so for the next couple nights. With recently elevated fireball sightings being reported to fireball monitoring websites, the opportunity to see both simultaneously remains good. Hi! I'm in Burbank, California and it passed right between (I think it was) Jupiter and Venus, about the size of Jupiter (maybe a bit bigger because it was aglow), with a tail about 3 to 4 times the size of the ball, and it lasted (I'm guessing here because it disappeared behind the rooftops) about 3 seconds. 5:10 or 5:15AM, Friday, June 3. I got more than I bargained for when I set the alarm to get up to see the aligned planets. Very cool.

Jun 3 2011, 1:12 AM Guest201 (guest): Meteor in Fort Wayne Indiana, 11:05pm on June 2 2011. Venus brightness. moving across southern sky. Appeared at top of sky and shot eastward for 2 seconds at high rate of speed.  No flashes sound or fragmentation, but remarkable nonetheless. Like a single dot of shooting across the sky. Was moving WAY too fast to be a satellite tho.   thank you guest 201 !
