****UPDATE...Photographer Captures New England Meteor...Breaking News! 30JAN2011

Cambridge Massachusetts Photographer Brad Kelly
" The photo is a single shot. It was captured with a Nikon D300. An 8 second tripod exposure using a 20mm prime lens at f8 aperture taken by Brad Kelly in Harvard Square 29JAN2011 at~8:29.  Here is a cell phone snapshot of the LCD screen of my "real" Nikon camera showing the photo of the meteor over Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA, at approximately 8:29pm.  I haven't transferred the photo from my camera's memory card yet.
I missed the movie I had been planning to see, so instead, I walked around Harvard Square with my camera and tripod taking some photos and I happened to get lucky with the camera in the right place at the right time. One in a million..."

Chat Post To ELPALLSKY...Jan 27 2011, 6:39 PM Guest594 (guest): Raleigh NC between approx. 7:10 and 7:20 EST - saw 2! bright meteors (yellow/white color) that lasted much longer than usual in heavily light polluted sky. I was quite surprised to see two so bright over a short period.
E-mail From James in Charlotte: I witnessed the same thing in Charlotte between 7:10pm and 7:15 pm. I live 10 miles north of downtown and the meteor/fireball was incredibly bright even with all the light pollution in Charlotte. It was amazing because I heard a noise above me and when I looked up the fireball was streaking across the sky for a few seconds and then it had a small explosion at the end.

E-mail To ELPALLSKY...John In Sarasota: Was out running in Sarasota Tuesday morning. I was on Antigua street in a community called Gulf Gate. I was running and looking south and I saw this yellow fire ball with a blue green tail. It seemed very low and close. The angle was such that my vision was interrupted by trees about 100 yards away. I stopped and watched it for maybe 3 seconds. My watch said 6:01 a.m.
Chat Post To ELPALLSKY...Jan 25 2011, 6:06 PM
Guest794 (guest): I saw the one early thismorning in South Central lorida as I was crossing the cane fields outside of Belle Glade Florida. It passed headin East low over the southern horizon. There was actually two different bursts as if it skipped off the atmosphere. Absolutely awesome

E-mail From Kurt In Naples FL...I saw the fireball described in other sightings at approximately 6 AM this morning in Naples, FL. As it approached, it lite up the front room. It then flew by the window for an instant. The ball was bright white with a slight green tinge along the trailing edge. It had a golden tail that appeared to be sparks trailing it.

E-mail Post To ELPALLSKY...I saw a fireball cross the sky while I was facing south in riverview around 6:00am, lasted a few seconds. Very large and bright
E-mail Post To ELPALLSKY...I saw it from Southeast Saint Petersburg.
U can see the Sunshine skyway bridge and it was directly above it. So from SE ST pete I saw it come down at a slight arc Southwest over the bridge so it may have landed in the Gulf. It was not in Tampa Bay. The green color is usually the element copper so I thought it might be a satellite or space junk
E-mail Post To ELPALLSKY...A large fireball was seen this morning 1/25 at 6:00am over the NW sky in Fort Myers, FL low just above the horizon. The meteor had a light blueish-grey smoke trail. Really beautiful!
E-mail From Boca Grande FL...Good morning - I found you on a Google search trying to figure out what I saw this morning. I was on the beach in Boca Grande Florida (sw coast) at (or just minutes before) 6am and what first appeared to be a huge shooting star appeared streaking eastward over the Gulf of Mexico, then burned green before disappearing behind a cloud. The whole view probably oasted 5-10 seconds For a secon I thought it was a signal flare but it didn't arc, it streaked.
Any other reports? Thanks - Mary Anne
E-mail To ELPALLSKY: I also saw the green lights on th 18 mile stretch connecting the keys to the mainland on jan 25th around 6 am. The funny part is no  one believes me. sincerely, kristopher

Breaking Meteor News...AMS Says 50 Reports Of Seven Seperate Bolide Events Over N America 19Jan 2011...

The American Meteor Society has received 39 reports of seven separate fireball events over North America on January 19th. Two of
these were widely seen events. Both of these events occurred near 21:00 EST. The first occurred  over the northern Midwest and
southern Canada. There is some wide scattered timing of this event and the possibility exists that this may be more than one
fireball. The second occurred over the southeastern states and was seen from Florida north to North Carolina. There is good
agreement for the timing plus it seems to been a bit brighter with a majority of those reporting that the peak brightness exceeded
that of the full moon.
For more details please visit the AMS website at:

Guest294 (guest): Driving north on I-25 tonight and saw a meteor around 6:50 near Raton, NM. Large. Then saw another one around around 9:30 near Pueblo, Co. The second one was larger and green. I think both were moving towards NW. Very cool!

Guest977 (guest): Louisville, CO. About 21:20-21:30. Driving, just turned north on Hwy 287 and saw a bright, bluish ball followed by a tapered white tail that was so bright it had blue/green colors on the edges. Flew from east to west, coming down. Lasted maybe 3-4 seconds.

Bright Green/Blue Fireball-
Lyons, CO. Jan. 14th, 2011 approx. from 9:30-10:15pm MST. In the Northern sky traveling NW at a steep downward angle. It was larger than the size of the full moon and nearly as bright. It lasted for just over 3 seconds. I have seen many large meteors and fireballs over the years this was the largest and brightest by far. Two of us witnessed in awe, a very bright fireball with a green core (core looked like it was fractured in 5 pieces) with radiating blue, orange, then white rays of light with bright white-orange tail. We were awestruck at its vibrant intensity from the comfort of the hot tub.  I happened to see it in its entirety because I was reclining in the hot tub and looking right where it first appeared.

Major Breaking News...NASA Revising Size And Weight of Mississippi Bolide Upward...13JAN2011...Announces Fall Zone...

NASA Huntsville has confirmed that the bolide which exploded over Mississippi on Jan 11, 2011 is a "meter class" object yielding an explosive equivilent of roughly 80 tons of TNT and weighing over a metric ton at detonation. Original estimates put the object's size at 21 inches diameter and weighing 171 kilograms. In an ELPALLSKY interview with the Director of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office in Huntsville AL, Dr. Bill Cooke, at 16:45 MST 01/13/11, Cooke says "the meteor exploded at a high altitude and likely scattered fragments over a large area". Cooke also said "infrasound signatures from the event place the debris fall zone over Jackson Mississippi". This coincides with the original thinking of Dirk Ross Worldwide Meteor/Meteorite News of Tokyo, Japan who theorized Jackson as the potential fall zone just after the event time of 20:45 CST on 1/11/11. Stay with ELPALLSKY for continued updates.

Breaking News...12JAN2011...NASA Huntsville Confirms Southern US Fireball Size, Weight, Trajectory...Calculates Fall Zone

Flash Of Light – Mystery Solved!
James Spann | 9:12 pm January 12, 2011 | Comments (6)

Here is the results of the research done by Bill Cooke of Marshall Space Flight Center’s Space Environments Team in Huntsville… bottom line was that this was a 21 inch rock with a trajectory from NE to SW with a fall zone potentially in Central or South-Central Mississippi.

“Can confirm that this was indeed a fireball or bolide. Unfortunately no video of the actual meteor has surfaced, so I requested an analysis of signals from North American infrasound stations. We had one very clear detection, from the ELFO station in Canada, and a marginal signal at another station east of the visual sightings. Unfortunately the marginal signal is too weak to permit extraction of much information or to triangulate.
The ELFO signal arrived at 10:05:50 PM Central time, some 1 hour and 20 minutes after the event, and came in at an azimuth of 210 degrees. I you look at the attached plot, the black curved line shows the path of the ELFO signal, which intersects nicely with the bulk of the visual observations – indicated by the red dot – around Jackson, Mississippi (ELFO az gives 32 deg N, 89 deg W – Jackson is at 32 deg N, 90 deg W).
The infrasound signal at ELFO lasted some 2.5 minutes, and the amplitude permits an estimate of the meteor’s energy at 4.6 tons of TNT. If we assume a speed of 15 kilometers per second, we can derive a mass of 171 kg or 376 pounds. Making a further assumption that the meteor was porous rock gives a size (diameter) of 0.54 meters or 21 inches.

That’s the best estimate at this time – if video data of the meteor itself shows up, please let me know. Don’t hesitate to ask questions if you need clarification or more information.

Regards,
Bill”

And, this information below is from meteorite hunter Rob Matson…

“Based on these 4 reports:

Slidell, LA: north, moving R–>L
Greenville, MS: east, moving L–>R
Montgomery, AL: west, moving R–>L
Memphis, TN: south, moving L–>R

it looks like the fall zone is in central or southcentral
Mississippi, and the bolide trajectory was from NE to SW.
I checked the real-time radars (which are only for the lowest
elevation angle) and there’s nothing obvious. So we’ll have
to wait for the full level-II data. –Rob”

Des Moines Iowa Fireball Reported To ELPALLSKY 12JAN2011...
Jan 12 2011, 8:27 PM
Guest32 (guest): I live in des moines, Iowa it is january 12 and i seen a fire ball coming out of the sky then turning green looked like it flew into town around 7 or 8 oclock

Email from "unicornfluff":
On Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at aprox 6:20pm I saw something fall from the sky and burst into flames. I was driving north on I-29 in Iowa, 6 or so miles from exit 20 (McPaul/Thurman). It was a bright streak of blue/green light falling straight down. It made a long streak of light, as though someone was drawing a line with a marker. Before it reached the ground, it caught fire. I know it was fire because the flames wafted upward and then it was extinguished. As I continued my trip north, I saw nothing along the side of the road or in the distance that would suggest a fiery impact in the earth. Very strange. I've seen meteors before, but none that fell straight down or caught fire.

Theresa in Iowa Email's:
Hi! On Wednesday January 12th at 6:27pm Central time we saw a meteor/fireball in what seemed to be the northern sky. We were driving west on a county road in New Market, MN when we witnessed the event. It was a long green streak followed by a brown explosion of sorts, or perhaps that is when it hit the atmosphere. It was very bright. My kids and I saw it out the right hand side of the car, which would have placed it north of us. My husband who was driving, did not see it but said the entire sky lit up, like lightning!

Saw this tonight! I am in the Florida panhandle though. It was the biggest I had ever seen, and bright green, direction was almost straight into the Gulf. It was around 8:40 pm, I was traveling west on US Hwy 98, towards Destin having just left Panama city beach. It started low in the sky, bright green and ended in a fireball in what seemed like the gulf. I hope this helps you.

Jan 11 2011, 10:37 PM
Guest131 (guest): Saw this all the way in Florida Panhandle, just west of Panama City Beach. Bright green meteor ending in bright fireball... made my report to the AMS. It was by far the most awesome meteor I have ever seen.

Guest563 (guest): i live in franklin, la and around 8:49pm i spotted a huge falling star/meteor! Its been a while since i saw one that big so i wondered if i was seeing things but obviously not! awesome!

Jan 12 2011, 8:09 AM
Guest800 (guest): I live between Garrison and Nacogdoches Texas. Last night (January 11, 2011)when I was standing on my front porch I witnessed a green "falling star". I was standing facing east when the "star" appeared. It was burning green with sparkles falling from it much like that of a single firework. It burned for just a brief time as it fell and disappeared behind the treeline. From my point of view, the star looked like it fell from top to bottom in the eastern sky

Jan 13 2011, 12:11 PM
Guest307 (guest): I saw this same "bolide" or meteor as well. I was in my car traveling east on Hwy 154 between Quitman and Gilmer, Tx. It flashed through the sky from north to south in a downward angle until it disappeared in the horizon of trees. I was at the top a hill (Kelsey Hill) when I saw it. My radio clock said 8:47 (pm), and I immediately called my dad to ask him what it could have been. It first appeared orangish-yellow (firey) and quickly changed to a bright green color until it dipped into the horizon.
It was in the lower northeastern sky from my reference, and it never crossed over HWY 154 before it dropped into the horizon of trees. It looked as if it was going to hit the Gilmer HS football stadium from where I was. It reminded me of a comet with a long streaking tail behind it........although the tail was a bright whitish-blue color, like a straight or semi-arched lightning bolt. It also reminded me of a colossal-sized green roman candle firework that got loose and hit the ground. Definitely a once in a lifetime sight!
Rikki Seely
Gilmer, Tx

Jan 14 2011, 8:26 AM
304 (guest): between 8:45-9:00 pm in San Augustine Texas, there was a green and orange light falling from the sky. As it went behind the trees, there was a white flash.
