NE U.S. "Fireball" Reports EXPLAINED !!!

A number of "fireball" reports have been received by ELPALLSKY indicating an event occurring at 11:09 pm EDT on June 29th, 2011 from North Carolina to Pennsylvania.  This event was, in fact the launch of an Air Force Minotaur rocket from Wallops Island as shown in the video below...
E-mail From:
Elizabeth W.-Alexandria, VA:
Well, I think the MD fireball is just an observation of the launch of a Minotaur rocket from Wallops Island. The rocket was carrying the ORS-1 satellite. Launch occurred at 11:09pm. There were some (low) clouds in the area so it would have seemed to 'disappear'...
I viewed the launch from Alexandria, VA... There were several hundred if not thousands of folks  watching the launch from DE down to NC, so if there was an actual fireball, I would think we would have seen more reports...
And it was very red at first and seemed to disappear very momentarily which I attribute to low clouds...

E-mail From:
Bill and Jan H.-Castroville, TX:
My wife and I spotted a meteor break apart into two pieces low over the southern sky from our home in Castroville Texas at approx 9:00 pm June 29,2011     thank you both! Now we wait for more reports

Wunderbar Pet Sitting-New Braunfels, TX:
9:03 pm tonite in New Braunfels TX headed SE - meteor?  White/blue front and red orange tail.  Please respond.
Nick-Buda, TX:
I witnessed this one also ~9:00-9:02PM CDT. Was traveling Southbound on I35 in Buda TX, fireball was headed easterly and apeared to dim out over Kyle are. This may be due to angle. Not much breakup and ended with large glow then dimmed. Hope to hear more about this one.

Dustin D.-New Braunfels, TX:
My family and I spotted a large blue streak across the sky in New Braunfels, Texas around 9:00 pm June 29, 2011. It had a very faint sound which caught our attention. The blue streak lasted for a few seconds then  fizzled out and broke apart into a few pieces with a little red before it disappeared. Very exciting to see!!

Christine S.-Buda,TX:
I saw what I initially thought to be a shooting star in the southern sky, but soon realized it was much too large & moved a bit slower. I even had time to point it out to my children who were  in the car with me. We were traveling south on Brodie Lane in Austin, TX around 9:00 pm June 29, 2011.

Barry W MSgt, USAF (Retired)
aka Doc Geo (Geocaching)
aka Barry, Son of Watt (Renaissance):

Coming home tonight, we saw a very bright object in the southern sky. I first saw it at 9:05 pm, about 20-25 degrees above the horizon, almost straight south of Paige, TX and it headed at angle (about 10 degrees to the left of being straight down) towards the horizon and was gone from sight in a few seconds. It seemed to be two large pieces, very close to each other. It was very bright (don't think it was the space station) and don't think there's a space shuttle up and it wouldn't have been in that part of the sky even if it was coming through the atmosphere for a landing.
Attached is a quick, (very) rough approximation of what I saw.

Liza W.-Corpus Christi, TX:
My husband and I saw a rather large fire trail which was pretty close, it seems. We are in Corpus Christi Texas. It was about 9 o'clock.

Devon C.-Kingsville, TX:
my name is Devon Cuevas and I live in Kingsville Tx . I saw this event around the same time like 9:00 - 9:10PM and I just wanted to let you no that I was driving, heading west and I saw it on my left side, a glowing bright blue light with a green flame, it was heading Southeast at a very slow pace. It had no sound from what I was trying to hear but, amazingly, after 6 seconds of seeing it in the sky, the last 3 seconds a smaller size piece broke off and faded away, while the other piece started to dim out, then i watched it burn out into just a red glowing falling ball and it dissapeard towards the gulf coast.

Mjmconsulting-San Antonio, TX:
My wife and I saw the green meteor over the northwest side of San Antonio at around 9pm, June 29th 2011.  It was freaking me out until I found your website.  At least I know I'm not crazy now. Lol

Virginia R.-Laredo, TX:
At about 9:04 pm central time I spotted a fireball falling from the sky. I live in Laredo, TX and I was facing NE as the fireball traveled from my upper right-hand side to my lower left. It had a yellow/white tail and ended with a very bright yellow ball with a blue spark that lit up just before it disappeared. There was no sound. It lasted for about 3-4 seconds. Six other people around me at the time saw the "shooting star" as well.

Jeff & Erin-Kingwood,TX:
While driving SSW from Kingwood to Atascocita across the San Jacinto river bridge on West Lake Houston Parkway, my Fiance and I spotted a large fireball that was traveling West to East low in the Southern sky at around 9pm June 29,2011. The Meteor lasted between 5 and 6 seconds glowing blue and then changing over to green before breaking up into several orange pieces.

Cordelia R.-Edinburg, TX:
My daughter and I saw a green meteor at 9:04pm over our home in Edinburg, Texas.  It was traveling west to east.  Did not hear anything but the sudden flash of light is what caught our attention.
Did not see any fragments...Thanks,

Brian S. - Austin, TX:
While driving south on South Congress Avenue in Austin, TX, I saw a greenish meteor traveling from West to East around 9:00pm.  It was low in the sky.  I didn't see any breakup but I was concentrating on driving too:)

Conor T.-Roundrock, TX:
I was on the way home from driving my mother to Ikea, on I35 in Round rock, around 9:05, I thought I saw a plane, but it move way to fast across the sky, I believe I saw a supersonic cone in front of it at an obtuse angle, the light traveled from west to east, It burned a bit reddish at first then greenish about halfway through (Dopplar effect?) My mother saw it as well, but I told her I hadn't seen it and she needed to see a psychiatrist.

Hi, I saw this meteor from my front porch in downtown San Antonio facing South. It was quite red and seemed to have a green tail. After about 6 seconds it fell out of my line of vision behind a neighboring house. I was so in awe of what I had seen that I thought I was crazy until a neighbor told me he had seen it too. I hope to hear more details about where/if any of it landed.

***If you saw this event, please email wxtx01@gmail.com with details including date, time, your location, which way you were facing, direction the fireball traveled (e.g. upper left to lower right etc.), duration of flight, any flashes (especially at end of flight), explosions, color, fragmentation if any, and any sounds such as hisses, sizzles, delayed booms. Thank you!***

My wife and I were sitting in the yard at our home in Plympton, MA when I saw a object in the sky burn bright blue to white and left a white trail of smoke.
The object appeared in the sky moving in a north-westerly direction. I went to point out the smoke trail to my wife and two maybe three minutes later or perhaps longer we heard a muffled boom unfamiliar to this area. I thought perhaps it was a meteor but have not seen them in the sky during the day. Earlier today, I commented on the Dudley MA. sighting but was unable to email from work.
Regards.
I wish I had a photo of the smoke trail but it was very distant and disappeared from sight quickly.     thanks Jeff!  Wow...a rare daylight sighting indeed!

Peyia Valley, Cyprus Orange Meteor Fireball 24JUN2011 ~00:05 Local Time EET

Email From:
Julie R.-Cyprus:
I saw a large orange red fireball as big as the moon.  It was visible over Peyia Valley in Cyprus.  I was facing south south west at the time and it was visible for about 4to5 seconds from me noticing it. Totally silent. Whilst I was watching it shrank to half the size in an instant but then it very slowly started a descent into the valley but then just before it disappeared it looked like it had exploded. Hope this info was helpful for your research. Please note that the time was Thursday night early hours in the morning of Friday 24th June 2011 and that this was Cyprus time.
Regards Julie R.     thank you Julie! Also forwarded to Worldwide Meteor/Meteorite News Tokyo

Email From:
DANIELLE V.-Halifax Nova Scotia:
Good afternoon, My name is Danielle. Saturday evening I was watching some tv in my living room and noticed that the neighbourhood was suddenly light up with a reddish glow, with a minor flicker. My first assumption was that there must be some firetrucks down the street but once I looked out the window, I saw this bright red ball of fire, going through the sky, about half the size of a full moon, and just before it went over the tree line, it appeared to loose it’s glow, but you could still see it, it looked like it had a slight wiggle from side to side to it, before I lost sight of it over the tree line. It was just a matter of seconds, I had my iphone in my hand and attempted to access my camera, but it was gone before I had a chance to photograph it. I’ve never seen anything like this before, it was breath taking!

F.I.T.S. Internet Traffic Inquiries Indicate...Email Confirms Minnesota, Wisconsin Meteor Fireball 10:15pm CDT 25JUN2011

E-mail From:
Thomas M.-Hudson, Wisconsin
June 25  2011. Tonight at 10:15 pm central daylight time I saw a large reddish-orange fireball in the sky. I was on my deck 15 miles east of St Paul minnesota.  The fireball was in the western sky and traveled from the south to north in a straight line.  The angle above the earth ( from my position) appeared to be about 20-25 degrees above the horizon. The fireball was about 1/2 the size of a full moon from my perspective. It appeared to be very, very slightly flickering in intensity but was alway very bright. It appeared to be round. From the time of first sighting  until it disappeared over the horizon was about 30 seconds.  My wife was also a witness.  We compared notes and agreed as to all points about this. I am an experienced pilot of many years experience so am used to looking a objects in the sky gaging distance, shape etc. I have 15 years experience as a Missile engineer at White Sands Missile range some years ago where I experienced many missile firings. So again I am familiar with this aspect of flying objects. This object glowed bright in color Orange-reddish, and left no trail or no visible debris falling away but it seemed to have an extremely slight tail. I am certain it was not an aircraft. The flight path was very consistent and apparently level with the horizon from first viewing to disappearing from sight. I need to add that there was no audible sound from this "fireball".

Hello, I just wanted to let someone know that on June 25, 2011 around 9:45 pm central time in Austin, TX, I spotted what looked like a meteor or space trash burning up as it entered the atmosphere. The object seemed to be about about ten times as big as a shooting star and so it immediately caught my attention.  As I watched it for about three seconds, it shot down as opposed to across the sky and was yellow as opposed to white in color.  I am very interested in astrology and it seemed to be a truly a unique sighting for me.

Anonymous-San Antonio, TX:
Hello, just wanted to report a sighting. Conveniently enough out of the 12-13 people that were on a roof at a party, I happened to be the only faced to where I saw the meteor/fireball/spacetrash. I'm not too sure which direction it went, but it was around 10-11 (not too sure), very very bright, yellow/reddish/orange ball in the sky. I saw it for about 5 seconds, I jumped up and said, "Holy crap look!!!" and it wasn't enough time for my buds to see it. I'm a stargazer, and have never seen something like that. It didn't make a noise, it was fairly quiet out on the roof. Thanks!

Another Bright Central TX Meteor Fireball 21JUN2011

For The Second Consecutive Night, Central Texas Hosts A Bright Meteor Fireball ~11:40pm CDT 21JUN2011

Email From:
Susan S.-Bastrop, TX:
I was driving down Hwy 21 East, from Bastrop, TX towards Bryan/College Station at around 2340 hours last night. The fireball was traveling at a high rate of speed, coming from southwest to northeast. It was at low altitude, was bright and multicolored. It was partly cloudy last night, and when it passed in front of me, it was in the clouds, but at low altitude and moving incredibly fast. It simply disappeared into the clouds. I didn’t hear any sounds as I was in my car with the radio on.....it was an incredible site, tho! Hope this helps!

Email From:
Shelly W.-South Of Dallas, TX:
You seem to be looking at the sky a lot.  I just saw a large slow moving fireball streaking across the sky  disappearing into the horizon.  No noise, too far out.  I've looked for a meteor shower being posted.  Nothing.  You mention space junk, but this would not be the right day. Did you see anything?  I live about 70 south of Dallas, so it would have been in to my southwest.
Thanks
Shelley W      no, Shelly. Confirmed...not space junk. Thank you for your report!

Ron H.-Austin, TX:
I saw it while driving in Austin heading North on Pleasant Valley Rd.. I was rather surprised by how slow it was moving. It looked to be heading in a Northwestern direction before the tree line obscured it. It was white then green. It's my second meteor sighting in 2 months, I witnessed the Georgia fireball on May 20th while I was in Tallahassee, FL. Seems like a lot of activity is going on. I actually just heard 2 pops about an hour ago. Maybe sonic booms? Any other activity happen around that time?     Several other events across the U.S. we're gathering data on. Check this site for those and others and thank you Ron!

Chris G.-Pflugerville, TX:
I was on my way to the store with my cousin, it was basically a falling rock that was shining green and we thought it was a firework, until a small cloud blocked it out for a few seconds and it hit the ground in less than 2 seconds. I had my cell in my hand but wasn't quick enough to snap a picture :\ We didn't hear any sounds or bangs after. i think we we were pretty far away, and i don't know which direction we were going in. we are in pflugerville.      thank you Chris!

Crystal G.-Fields Of Cover, TX:
Hi guys, just wanted to confirm witnessing this event. Both my husband and I saw it while driving in our subdivision, Fields of Cover, right on Crestway street and FM78 road. We thought it was a flare or fireworks. Couldn't here anything due to radio, just a bright greenish color. It was amazing. It seemed to have fallen in our subdivision, it was very close, around 11:35ish. The street illuminated greenish light.

John Z.-Cedar Park, TX:
"I also saw the 06/20/11 fireball over Texas. I'm in Cedar Park (a subdivision of Austin TX). It was kind of windy here last night, so I went outside to investigate at about 11:48 or 11:50 PM Central time and looked up into the northwest part of the sky - I guess I got really lucky because just as I looked there the fireball appeared. It was large and blazed downward at a steep angle leaving a greenish trail behind it - I watched it do down until it disappeared behind the row of homes on my street - about a second after that there was a bright green flash that lit up the sky near the horizon so I'm guessing that it probably exploded before hitting the ground (or maybe it did hit the ground?). Didn't hear any sound at all."

Jordan H.-Lake Ray Hubbard, TX:
I was on I30 heading west just over lake ray hubbard when I saw a huge streak in the sky that just kept falling and falling. Had an orange glow to it. I lost sight of it behind buildings. It started more than halfway up in the sky. June 20 @1145pm. Moving from left to right in the west/northwestern sky.

Gary D.-San Antonio TX:
Yes!!! Everybody thinks I'm nuts but I saw this too from an Exxon in San Antonio, TX.  I happened to be looking up in the sky while filling my car up and noticed 2 planes coming into the city (as I live near an airport) and then suddenly noticed a green/reddish colored comet-like object racing through the sky at speeds that made the planes look like they were at a stand-still. Regardless, it hung for a good second in the sky and it was traveling parallel to the horizon--almost as if it was gonna strike somewhere way up north. I was facing dead north when it happened so it was apparently headed in that path. If there is any other news on what this was, please let me know!! I posted this yesterday on my Facebook and a few others saw it as well. Then I came across this article this morning as I was trying to find some account to what this was that I witnesses last night. Thanks!!

Joey D.-San Angelo, TX:
I am glad someone else saw it as well.   A friend of mine and I  were sitting outside last night.   I saw it, he didn't.  I am located in San Angelo texas 76904.   I was facing south and it crossed from west to east.   Very big (as compared to a normal "falling star") and moved much slower.  It was green with a yellow-orangish tail.  As it traveled east, my house blocked my viewpoint, but i did see a yellow flash on the horizon.   I ran to the edge of my yard and looked over my fence;  i guess i was waiting for a boom.  There was just silence the whole time.  It looked as though someone had shot a firework from my neighbors house it was so close, just no noise.  I went back to my seat and looked at my phone,  it was 11:46pm.   Funny thing is, my friend who was facing west, never saw it.  And, probably 5 to 15 minutes before then, he asked if there was a storm coming in, because he thought he saw lightening coming from the southwest. Let me know if you need more info.

Mariah M.-Austin, TX:
Hey, thanks for posting on this. I saw it last night and thought I was crazy. It was so bright! I thought it was a bottle rocket at first. I saw it around 11:44pm last night driving west on Cesar Chavez about to get on Mopac. It looked like it was headed northwest. It was kind of yellowy white and had a tail. I'm attaching a map of where I was and what direction the fireball was headed in relation to me. What exactly was it? Thanks!

Lawrry C.-Dripping Springs, TX:
I was pulled over @ picnic area on cr165 between dripping springs & blanco, TX suddenly the area lit up enough to cast a shadow i looked up towards the general direction of round mountain, TX and saw a florescent green light falling straight down turning to a firey yellow and burned out. We are in extreme wildfire danger but I saw no grass fires. Time was approximately 11:45, 6/21/11

Kyna G.R.-Morris Ranch, TX:
I saw the meteor fall last night in an area referred to as Morris Ranch tx.  We are located 11 miles from Fredericksburg and about 13 miles from Kerrville  Tx     I saw it falling northwest in the sky.  It was so bright, it caught my eye through the window. Never seen anything like it.  Looked like a small explosion in the sky. Saw it at about 11 55 pm June 20 2011.   Orange fire and a tail of smoke behind it as it appeared to fall to the ground.  Traveled right to left as I stood northwest.  Morris ranch tx. Hope this helps

Jacob C.-Brownwood, TX:
saw this email add online when researching a fireball i saw last night.
i am in Brownwood, tx and i was on the back pourch with my mother at approx 2345 when my conversation was interupted by a light that hurt my eyes to look at. it was almost like a long camera flash had gone off. the light was so bright it was like daylight for about 2-3 seconds. i was facing the west-southwest when i saw the streak of light. it had a greenish tint followed by a fairly long fire trail that looked almost like the trail from a large bottle rocket. it was moving from the south to north i think. to be honest i was surprised not to hear an explosion afterwards. im in the military and thought it was the result of a mortor flare going off. hope this helps your research.

Max-Manchaca, TX:
me my uncle and my cousin where outside smoking a cigg .
no lights were on and we saw a bright greenish white falling star .
at first i had my back tords it looking at my uncle and i saw his face light up and can almost see waves in the light on him and turned around (facing north) and got a glipse of it right before it disappeared behind the trees. it was traveling from west
it had a long trail behind it. very very bright , no sound .
20 minutes later i was facing south and saw a shooting star.
hope this helps

ARDADMIN-Austin, TX:
My husband and I were taking out the trash at about 11:30 on June 20.  We live in NW Austin by Lake Travis north of Lakeway. We saw the fireball, which to me looked bluish at the head with a bright yellow and orange tail, heading Northwest in the lower atmosphere.

Michael L.-Duncanville, TX:
I saw that you wanted information from people that saw the meteor in Texas on Monday 20 June 2011. I was at home in Duncanville Texas (Latitude: 32°37'27.7" N Longitude: 96°54'57.4"S) and was looking southwest, about 220°, somewhere around 11:30 pm when I saw it. I had just opened my front door when it saw it going from left to right at an angle of maybe 30°. It was green in color and I didn't hear anything because I was still inside my house about to exit. Don't know if the storms in my area to the north had anything to do with the color. I first thought it might have been fireworks but the speed, angle, and size quickly ruled that out.

William B.-In Flight Over Central OK:
Greetings!
My wife and I saw the green fireball last monday night from on board a United Express flight on approach to Will Rogers World Airport in OKC from the west.  We were on the right side of the aircraft looking south at lightning in the distance when the fireball occurred.  It appeared to be very close and at about our level!  I don't know what altitude that was, but I would guess between 10kft and 20kft.  It looked much like a green roman candle!  From our vantage point it appeared to be moving vertically with little or no horizontal component of velocity.

Vestor S.-Central TX:
My friend and I were driving west on hwy 71 close to midnight on 6/20/2011 when we saw from the upper left to the lower right a huge green, then blue, then orange meteorite. There was a whistling noise then it appeared to almost land before it fizzled out. My name is Vester S. my email is (email on file) phone is (phone # on file) I have never seen one this big nor this close. It was really close. Before it crashed we thought we saw a huge light in the air.

Keith V.-San Antonio, TX
Not sure how helpful this is, but I saw the meteor over central Texas
on Mon Jun 20th, 2011. I don't have an exact time, but it was pretty
close to midnight. I was just off Blanco Rd., about 5 miles north of
1604 loop in San Antonio, TX. Looking north, the trajectory was nearly straight down for me, so it didn't really streak across the sky like others that I have seen. It appeared to break apart a bit as it went behind the hills to the north of me where I lost sight of it.

Hello!!! Yes, I saw this!!!! I can't believe it!! I thought it was a firework, but it was too high, too quiet, and lasted too long!!! I couldn't believe my eyes!! No one believed me when I said I saw the BRIGHTEST shooting star EVER, so I decided to Google it and found your blog!!! WOW!! I didn't realize it was a meteor fireball!! Anyway, for details....I live in Seminole, FL (Pinellas County). I took the dogs out about 9:50-ish PM EDT on Jun 20th, 2011; the fireball came from the west and was traveling east across the sky. I did not hear any noises. It was BIG and very BRIGHT, and FAST!!! It was a bluish-green in color!! I kept waiting in hopes of seeing another one!! It was PHENOMENAL!!! I thought I was dreaming and didn't really see what I thought I saw!! LOL! Thanks, Angela B.

S. Ellston-Anna Maria Island, FL:
I witnesses a meteor on June 20, 2011 at approximately 9:45 pm. I was on Anna Maria Island, Florida. I noticed it to the northeast, moving from left to right.  At one point a sizeable chunk appeared to break off and slow quickly in the tail.  It appeared to land east from Anna Maria. Meteor was bright. Maybe white tinged with green or blue. Orange tail.

Carol G.-Sarasota FL:
Hello , Three of us saw a fireball or a shooting star it seemed to come very close and then burned up June 20 2011 around 9:50 p.m. EDT. Has any one else see this tonight?
Thanks,  Carol G.

Rev. Carol R.C.-Marion County, FL:
From The Villages in Lake and Marion County in Florida.  We saw the shooting star at about 9:50 p.m.  It was bright yellow with a huge fireball and a tail of light that extended a good distance behind.  I heard no sound.  It was clearly visible for approximately 10 seconds.  It moved from right to left with a downward (fairly steep) trajectory.  I was facing southeast.  It was an incredible sight.

Space Trash Dumpster To Return To Earth In A Fireball On June 21st 2011

Man Made Fireball To Put On Show Over The Pacific Ocean
From BBC News 20JUN2011

Late on Tuesday (GMT), a huge fireball will streak across the skies over the Pacific Ocean.
Not many will get to see it; it will be over an uninhabited part of the world, and ships and planes have been warned to steer clear of the area.
The event is the return from orbit of Europe's space freighter, ATV-Johannes Kepler.
It has completed its mission at the International Space Station (ISS) and it's now time to come home.
The freighter took up more than seven tonnes of fuel and other supplies to the orbiting outpost, but for its return it has been packed with the platform's rubbish.
Little of the ship or this waste is actually expected to make it all the way to the surface of the Pacific Ocean. Most will simply vaporise in the intense heat generated during the descent through the atmosphere.

ATV (Nasa/Esa)

Johannes Kepler has spent the past four months attached to the back of the ISS. It has been filled with all the rubbish from the space station for its destructive return to Earth

Nevada Long Duration Meteor Fireball 19JUN2011

Email From:
Arthur H. Spear III & IV-Henderson, NV:
On June 19, 2011 “Fathers day”. My son Arthur and I saw a bright object race across the sky very fast. Meteor ? Asteroid? UFO? Who knows …but we followed it with the naked eye around 8:30pm or so for approx 8-10 seconds. It started by Venus and flew across at approx 37 angle towards a constellation to the right Not sure which one could be Orion? It was amazingly bright with no contrail. We were lucky enough to witness whatever this was. It was definitely a cool sight we will never forget. It traveled on an angle across the sky at first and then went upward and then we lost sight of it. Searching thru the internet there were other sightings of UFO’s around the world that day.Not saying that was what we saw but who knows.

North Texas Meteor Fireball 18JUN2011

Fireball Reported Over N TX ~11:30 pm 18JUN2011-FITS Inquiries Suggests Seen By Many
Email From:
Jessika P.-Stephenville, Texas:
Hello, I live in Stephenville, Texas.  Last night I was outside, facing west and then around 11:30pm something was moving quickly to my south - shoutheast.  It only lasted a few seconds - 5 at the most. At first it was a small white ball of light, then a larger white ball, turning red/orange, and finally a green tint.  It fell behind a tree line at this point.  I tried to listen for it to hit the ground, but a neighbor stared their car up around the time I believe a noise could have been heard.  It was several miles from me I am sure, although I do not know how many.  Very cool though!!!  I was running into my front yard to keep my eye on it!!  Amazing!!  I would love to figure out how to go find it, and see if anything with standed an impact. Thank you,    thank you for this heads up Jessika!

Luis C.-Fair Oaks Ranch, TX:
I live in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas (West of San Antonio), zip code 78015.  Saturday night, 06/18/2011, my wife and I were in our swimming pool, at about 11:30 pm or so, when I, who was facing North, saw what appeared to be a large ball of fire streaking downward toward the horizon, travelling downward at a 4 o’clock angle, left to right.  What I saw was a bright white ball with visible flames on each side of it.  The flames were red to orange and very distinct around the left and right sides of the ball.  It was so large that I have to believe it was very close to the earth’s surface.  Just to give you a frame of reference to size, the size of the fireball compared to stars in the sky was similar to the head of a thumbtack compared to a basketball.   It lasted only about 4 seconds before falling behind the tree line and was lost to sight.   Afterwards we googled “fireball in the sky, July 18, 2011” we found references to it on your website.  It would be very interesting to know what it was and where, if it was a meteorite, it came down, as it seemed so close to our location.
