on october 17th about 9:30pm i was driving down gaspereau mtn, nova scotia. travelling north. i saw a floating white ball of light in the sky.. then it started moving northerly but slowly! it looked like a ginormous shooting star only way way bigger and a lot slower.. there was no tail. there was no explosion. the light did not dim out, it simply dissappeared behind the trees. i slowed right down to a stop as i was driving. this thing scared me. it was nothing ive ever seen before .i got chills man. what was it?!!!? I saw the most amazing thing this morning!! It was close to one in the morning on October 16th!! I was walking across the yard from my Moms house over to mine and I happen to look up to the sky!! It was the biggest and most brightest falling star I've ever seen!! It was amazing!! It was HUGE!! I watched it as it got closer and closer!! It looked like it disappeared at the top of the Pine Trees in my yard!! It reminds me of the way the firework shoots out the end of a Roman Candle and then falls slowly to the ground! It was completely white though!! Had no color or tail!?! So im not to sure of what I saw! I just know that it was amazing that I happen to be going across the yard that late at night and was lucky enough to see it!! It was fabulous!! I have looked all over to see if anyone else from my town saw it too! I am from Southern Mississippi!! My brother works for NASA, I am going to ask him to find out what he can about it!! I know what I saw, Im not crazy!! For it to be as big as it was, somebody has to know what it was! It didnt explode it just went out! If you find anything out about it I would love to know!! I am just an old country girl that never gets to see amazing things like that and would love to be able to explain to people that what I saw was actually there and that it wasnt a stupid plane or firework!! Breaking Meteor Fireball News...Phoenix AZ Bright Green Meteor Fireball 15OCT2011

Andrew V.-Phoenix AZ:I was in my car driving southbound in Phoenix, Arizona and stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road. (about 8 miles to the west of downtown Phoenix) I just happened to catch the last few seconds of this event as it caught my attention out the driver's side window of my car. The fireball was travelling from west to east to the southeast of my location just before 11pm (arizona and pacific time). As I watched the fireball for about 4 seconds it appeared to be falling and went from bright green to gone and appeared to "fizzle out" somewhere over Downtown Phoenix or just to the south of the downtown area (which would be about 8 miles to the east and one mile south of where I was at the time.
I came home a few minutes later and found nothing on the local news websites until this came up on google.
Whatever the object was and where ever it began I do not know but It definitely appeared to come down or break up over the metro Phoenix area to the south or east of the downtown area. Where I was is about 8 miles due west of the airport and the large jets line up on their approach vectors to head straight east to the runways. There was at least one large passenger jet several thousand feet up on a landing approach and this fireball was in front of them so I cannot imagine the pilots or passengers not seeing it also. There ware several more aircraft in the approach pattern several miles behind them to the west and north who would have also likely seen this object, so there may have been something on record with the air traffic control at Sky Harbor International Airport or possibly the FAA also.
I hope some more information of this is forthcoming as the is the first time I have ever observed a meteorite or other object streaking across the sky before, it was exciting! (If you find anything out please let me know...)

Q: How low on the horizon did visible flight end?
A: I really dont know an exact measurement, but my understanding of this is that If I were to put an imaginary giant protractor in front of me with 0* being on the east horizon and 90* being straight above me the object would have been around 65-70 degrees in the sky towards the south east from where I was (facing directly south in my vehicle). There appeared to be a few small 'sparks' coming off the tail of this object which is how i knew which direction it was moving and in the front was the green fireball. As I said I only caught the final few seconds of the object before it just seemed to burn out like a spent firework. The object appeared to be coming down towards the ground as it disappeared and the area in which it disappeared was still clearly in my field of vision so I know it did not just go over the horizon or behind a building as it was still up in the sky...

October 15, 2011 Chandler Az. I had observed a green fireball moving from west to east while in my back yard. It was a slow moving meteor aprox 3 seconds and was low in altitude compared to your average meteor. It was bright like a firework with a tail and slower than your average meteor. The location was south east of Dobson Rd & Ray Rd.

Hello, I googled 'Phoenix Meteor October 15' and found your website.
My wife and I were headed East on the 202 San Tan Freeway around the Kyrene exit when we saw the fireball that appeared to be moving easterly downward (from our perspective it was moving towards earth but headed in an easterly direction.)
I cannot be exactly sure of the time, but it was around midnight (so almost 10/16)
It reminded me of burning magnesium, it was very bright and then just disappeared before it would have hit the horizon. It appeared to be above Chandler, AZ from our perspective at that time.

Hello,
Last night at approx 10:30pm while driving east on the San Mateo
bridge my wife and I spotted an incredibly bright, and incredibly FAST,
aerial moving object. It started mid way through the sky, and flew
from west to east (so straight down from our vantage point). It had a
slight blue-ish color, but it was hard to tell since we saw it through
some cloud cover. Yet, even with the clouds, it was very obvious given
it's brightness and speed. No idea what it was. It appeared to be coming
straight down out of the sky.

I was driving North on Boulder Hwy at around 10:30p.m. PST when we saw the comet/asteroid. We saw it drop down on the horizon and were both in shock for like 10 seconds. He's 63 and I'm 19 and neither of us have ever seen anything like it before. It was in our North sky. What adds to the mystery is that where it fell is the EXACT direction of Area 51. Boulder Hwy runs Northwest and Southeast.

My granddaughter and I were on our way home from an Oak Hills High School football game a little after 10 pm Friday , October 14, 2011 when we spotted the fireball. I slowed down to view and we were speechless as we watched it. It appeared to me to be bluish green and she said green. It was a ball with a trail falling down then appeared to slow down then fizzled downward until no longer in site. We were traveling north on Third Ave in Hesperia, California between Ranchero Rd and Main St. We didn't hear or read about it in the news.

I spotted the green bluish light last night around maybe 10:20 pm. The location was Sacramento,CA. It happened in the south- east part of the city. I was on Gerber Way going towards matter field. the light seemed to look like a comet with a bluish greenish colored tail. it was really fast and crossed from the top right corner of my windshield and seem to of fallen behind some houses on the far left.(though i really don't think that it had fallen so close since there was no boom! noise or nothing, seemed more like an optical illusion)

ROSAT...Another Uncontrolled Satellite Reentry Expected 22OCT2011 To 24OCT2011

ROSAT RE-ENTRY: The ROSAT X-ray observatory, launched in 1990 by NASA and managed for years by the German Aerospace Center (DLR), will return to Earth within the next two weeks. Current best estimates place the re-entry between Oct. 22nd and 24th over an unknown part of Earth. ROSAT will produce a spectacular fireball when it re-enters, but not all of the satellite will disintegrate. According to the DLR, heat-resistant fragments as massive as 1.7 tons could reach Earth's surface. Check http://spaceweather.com for more information.

Observing another doomed satellite: ROSAT
Shortly after the UARS reentry, which got wide attention, another scientific satellite is about to meet its demise by an uncontrolled plunge into the atmosphere. It is the German X-ray astronomical satellite ROSAT. This satellite is currently predicted to reenter about October 22 to 24.This evening I watched it pass during twilight (sun at 8 degrees below the horizon, first stars just visible in a blue sky). It was fast, zipping across the sky, and bright: magnitude +1 and an easy naked eye object.
I used the new EF 2.0/35mm lens (a new purchase, first used last weekend during the Draconid meteor outburst, on which I will post in a later post), set to F2.5, making 5 second exposures at 400 ISO. The fast moving objects ran out of the frame of two of the three images. Below is the image thats shows the complete trail. The satellite was moving from left to right, across Cepheus. The streak in top is a streak of cirrus.

Michigan Meteor Fireball 10OCT2011

Cheryl M.-South Haven, MI:October 10, 2011 Hello! I can't believe I am writing again to tell you I witnessed another large shooting star (or fireball) over michigan! I am in South Haven along Lake Michigan. At about 10:20 pm tonight I was facing east admiring Jupiter and the moon. I had looked away but when I looked back up in the sky coming from the north east sky was a large shooting star. The ball of light moved left to right. Straight streak at first and as it headed right (south) it curved down and it fell like a waterfall. As it fell to the right and down, it seemed to disappear and reappear but stayed in a straight line. It reappeared twice maybe three times as it fell. This "fireball" was more to the north than the one I saw on Oct. 4 which was in the east sky. The almost full moon was just to the south east of me and I was standing in some shade from the moonlight.

Hi! My name is Kyle and I would like too make a report of the meteor that was spotted over Mid-Michigan. At 10:20 or 10:22 on the night of 10/10/11. I was outside smoking a cigarette and admiring the moon with my girlfriend Facing SSE, when out of luck I look out over my shoulder too the NNW and I catch glimpse of a Meteor streaking across the sky too the East towards Flint. I witnessed numerous colors during my sighting. Bright blue, Red, White, and this thing had quite the tail of light as it streaked across the sky. About 4 seconds into the initial visible confirmation it Fizzled and broke apart into 3 or 4 different pieces of debris, I witnessed the debris which was glowing red at this point fall for about 8 seconds before the temperature of the object/objects no longer was hot enough for it to glow. Beautiful sighting I tell ya..I heard No sonic booms, No Sizzling. Once in a lifetime....AMAZING thank you Kyle. Great report!

I too saw the event. Walking the dog facing NE in Cedra springs, Mi. The time would have been between 1015-1030. Left to right fairly flat flight, not real high (30 ish degrees) Very bright white light, thick V shape with a round dark tip. Very cool 3-4 seconds. Sorry im not very technical just curious. We were all sitting at the lake, huge fire going, watching the tigers and rangers baseball ball game,when sometime after 10 PM we all saw the huge fireball fall from the east-north east and explode. I glanced to the north at appox 10:20 pm on 10/10/11 while outside enjoying our fire pit in Mason MI. At first I thought I saw a low flying airplane coming from the westheading east, then realized it was moving way too fast with no noise, and a very white, bright light about a quarter of the size of the moon thatnight. Moving very fast, with a large electric blue and white tail trailing behind it, with very little arch. as it reached the eastern horizon it appeared to explode and disappeared.I’ve seen meteors, and many a falling star, but never have I witnessed something that low in the sky, with a duration that long, as it lasted about 5-7 seconds with little tono “arch” it appeared to have gone west to east as I looked to my north. Mason is located right between Grand Rapids and Detroit, so we get a lotof air traffic heading west to east, and visa versa. Still gives me goose bumps thinking about it! Hello, My nephew and I were leaving a shopping center in Canton, Michigan on 10/10/11, at approximately 8pm, heading East, and even though the sky was cloudy we saw and amazingingly large shooting star above us. I Can't remember the precise location or all of the visual details, but it was one of the biggest I've ever seen!

Brian C.-Warren Ohio 8:00pm CDT:I was out tonight in Warren Ohio facing North and saw a meteor descending what appeared to be North East towards Cortland Ohio. It exploded in a red/ white flash with what appeared to be streamers going in many different directions. This occurred in about thirty seconds time, I did not hear anything. The explosion was brighter than the streamer coming in. I do not know if anything made it to the ground. thanks Brian!

My husband and I also saw this. We were on our front porch, which faces north northwest, in Toledo, Ohio. It was a few minutes past 8:00 p.m. We were standing looking at the stars, which is something that we frequently do, and all of a sudden, coming right over our house, straight above us, came this fireball. We both stood there in awe at this amazing sight. It was traveling toward the north northwest. It broke up into what looked like three fragments and seemed to "burn out" before it went below the tree line. From Anonymous-Houston, TX: Last night me and my girlfriend were headed back from the annual Renfest in Magnolia, TX sometime between 9 and 11 pm, I couldn’t tell you what time exactly. While we were driving south west on a highway in Houston we were mid conversation when we both just stopped. I had stopped talking because the entire sky lit up bright blue twice in under a second. It was kind of like a camera flash. It really startled me. I looked over at her and she had the same confused look on her face. We had both seen it. The sky was kind of cloudy and we did hit some small patches of rain along the way but there was still a lot of clear sky. We didn’t see any lightning before that or after that until about 3 hours later when a thunderstorm rolled in. We had both agreed that it was WAY to bright and WAY to blue to be lightning. We didn’t see a fire ball or anything resembling one though. The rest of the drivers seemed to have see it to because when it happened a lot of people hit their brakes and a lot of people swerved a little. It was insanely bright. I’d love to know if anyone else saw it.

Noreen S.-Midlothian, IL:Oct 8, 20011 we were enjoying a nice evening around a campfire in Midlothian Il. Somewhere around 9pm we saw a bright ball of orange coming from the east, no sound but, moving fast. We could see it curve slightly north and it look like it was headed towards Midway Airport. When we lost sight of it.
At first we thought it was a plane on fire. But ,a ball of fire like that on a plane we all concluded it would of blown up. We were all in awe and excited about this event and are still excited to have seen our first metorite. We all all curious to find out if it landed someplace or just burned out. thank you for your report Noreen!

I witnessed the fireball! It was the most amazing visual experience of my lifetime. It was apporoximately 9:40 p.m. central time on October 8th, 2011. I was in Western Kentucky having a campfire with family and friends and my sister and I witnessed it in the west/southwest portion of the sky traveling from the upper left to the mid/lower right. I've seen plenty of meteor showers and shooting stars before, but this blew all previous experiences out of the water. At first, I actually thought someone had shot off some sort of firework display, but then I realized that it was silent, and real. It was a huge ball of fire, about one half to a third of the size of the moon in comparison, and three times as bright. Its tail was long and colorful, mostly orange. It shot silently across the night sky and disappeared. It was absolutely brilliant, and I am proud to have witnessed such an event! thank you for confirming this event Jade!

Draconid Meteor Shower To Peak 08OCT2011...Some Predict A Meteor Storm With 1000+ Meteors Per Hour

Astronomer predicts dramatic Draconid meteor shower for October 8, 2011

Canadian astronomer Paul Wiegert announced earlier in 2011 that the annual Draconid meteor shower might produce a brief meteor storm of 1,000 meteors per hour on October 8, 2011.
He said the 2011 Draconid outburst could be expected to occur between 17 and 18 UTC on October 8. This translates into between noon and 1 p.m. Central Daylight Time on October 8 in the U.S. – daylight in North America. Because this shower’s radiant point in the constellation Draco is so far north on the sky’s dome, the shower will be visible primarily in the northern hemisphere. Plus Draco is highest in the sky during the evening hours. Thus the best locations from which to view the shower – according to Wiegert’s May-June 2011 prediction – should be Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.
The shower is expected to continue to produce meteors, albeit it at a reduced level, into the North American evening of October 8. So North Americans might still have a chance to see the meteor shower.
A shower of 1,000 meteors per hour would be spectacular indeed. Woot?! Not yet.
Wiegert admits that meteor predictions are not ironclad. He said:
… you never know. Meteor showers are as difficult to predict as rain showers. The Draconids have surprised us before, and they may do so again. I’d encourage anyone outside on the night of October the 8 to look to the northern skies, just in case.There is another major factor. The moon will be in a waxing gibbous phase on October 8. It will be in the sky – large and bright – when the sun goes down on October 8 as seen from around the world. As all meteor-watchers know, a large bright moon will drown all but the brightest meteors in its glare. That means the predicted rates of 1,000 meteors per hour will be severely diminished by the moon, no matter where you are on Earth.
The Draconid meteor shower has produced storms in the past. In 1933 and 1946, the Draconids produced “meteor storms” where shooting stars were produced at rates of 10,000 per hour or even more. Other less dramatic outbursts — where the meteor counts nonetheless ran into the hundreds per hour — occurred in 1952, 1985, and 1998. Normally, though, the Draconids are a weak shower producing perhaps 10 meteors per hour.
Let’s talk a moment about Paul Wiegert, the lone astronomer who made this prediction. Wiegert is an astronomer at University of Western Ontario. His specialty is solar system dynamics. In other words, he conducts numerical analyses of the way objects in our solar system move. He says he likes working with smaller bodies particularly: asteroids, comets and meteoroid streams. He made his announcement about the 2011 Draconids at the Canadian Astronomical Society (CASCA) meeting of professional astronomers in Ontario May 20-June 2, 2011.
Is the prediction credible? Yes, certainly, as predictions go. This is a good year to watch the Draconids!
How to view the Draconid shower
This meteor shower really favors the northerly latitudes, but that’s not to say the Draconid meteors can’t be seen from the northern tropics. Wherever you may reside worldwide, the best viewing of these meteors will probably be at nightfall and early evening on October 8. That’s because that’s when the radiant point for the shower – in the constellation Draco the Dragon – will be highest in the sky for the night. All other things being equal, the most meteors tend to fall when the the radiant point is highest in the sky. North of about 35 degrees north latitude – the latitude of Memphis, Tennessee – the radiant is actually circumpolar. Circumpolar means that the radiant stays above the horizon all night long. So northerly latitudes are definitely favored for the Draconids.
Locate Dragon’s eyes and radiant point for Draconid meteors
Even so, the radiant will fall downward during the night and reach its low point close to dawn, as seen from all points in the northern hemisphere. Generally, you see few – if any – meteors when the radiant of the shower falls close to the horizon. However, if the Draconids should burst into storm during the predawn hours (that’ll be in Asia and possibly Alaska on October 9, if the prediction holds), you might not see an abundance of meteors but you may see some earthgrazers – unusually bright and long meteors that go horizontally across the sky.
However, nightfall and early evening on October 8, 2011 will probably provide the greatest number of meteors. At this time, the waxing gibbous moon will be rather low in your east to southeast sky and casting long shadows. Sit in the shadow of a barn or hedgerow of trees, though with an otherwise open view of sky. This should help darken the night for meteor watching.
Comet Giacobini-Zinner spawns the Draconid meteor shower
Like most meteors in annual showers, any fiery Draconid meteors we see streaking across a dark night sky actually started out in a meteoroid stream in space – a river of icy, rocky debris – left behind in the orbit of a comet. The comet that spawns the Draconid shower is named Giacobini-Zinner. Known for over 100 years, this comet takes about 6.6 years to orbit our sun once.
Comet Giacobini-Zinner was the first comet to be examined by a spacecraft, when in 1985 the International Cometary Explorer flew through its tail, passing approximately 4,847 miles (7,800 km) from its nucleus.
A comet’s tail can extend for millions of kilometers in space, but any spectacular display of meteors on October 8 does not originate from the comet’s tail. It originates from the much-smaller comet nucleus, or core. Essentially an ice asteroid, the frozen comet nucleus partly evaporates when its orbit brings it close to the sun. At this time the comet’s tail, which is composed largely of water vapor and chemically related species, grows in size and may achieve naked-eye visibility from Earth. The vaporization process also releases copious quantities of small rocks and dust because the nucleus is far from pristine ice: it is more like a dirty city snow-bank after a long winter.
The solid rocky material produced by a comet continues to orbit the sun after its release. At this point, it has become a meteoroid stream in space. If the orbit of the meteoroid stream intersects Earth’s orbit – at a time when Earth is nearby – bits of cometary debris burn up in our upper atmosphere and produce a meteor shower. Particles no larger than a pea and which burn up at altitudes of 62 miles (100 km) are easily noticeable from the ground; in fact, this describes most meteors visible to the human eye.
Bottom line: The 2011 Draconid meteor shower might produce a meteor storm of 1,000 meteors per hour on October 8, 2011. Europe, North Africa and the Middle East are favored, but peak rates for the shower might extend into North America on the evening of October 8. There will be a large, bright moon in the sky. Its light will diminish the shower. But go outside and look anyway!

Dawn G.-Freeport, MI:I was heading east on Freeport Rd, out of the village when not quite overhead a large neon blue/green ball following 2 smaller ones shot across the sky from north to south. At first, I thought it might be the lights under a low-flying jet; but the biggest ball had a slight green tail & they all disappeared as suddenly as they had appeared. I assumed they were either parts of a satellite burning up as they entered the earth's atmospere or they were meteor debris. They were quite beautiful. This was in Freeport, Michigan at 6:45 am, on Friday October 7, 2011. thanks for the heads up Dawn!

I live in Baden, Ontario, Canada and around the same time (6:45 on Friday October 7th) I was jogging outside when I witnessed a Blue/greenish fire ball move through the sky. It was moving from North to South and looked fairly large(about a 1/4 the size that the moon appeared). Just wondering if anyone knows what this was.

Tonight (October 4 2011) around 8 pm we heard a boom, I went to sit outside and about 8:10 pm I witnessed the most beautiful bright green and orange long streaking fireball shoot across the sky in the city of Novi, MI. I was in such awe to see such a beautiful thing, wondering if this was a meteor or what, it reminded me of a very brightly lit bottle rocket shooting across the sky, but there was no noise. Do you know what this was? I really would like to know if what I witnessed was indeed a meteor.

Hi there, at approximately 7:58 pm tonight driving westbound on the 401 in SW Ontario Canada between Kitchener and Woodstock (aprox 5-6KM east of exit 250) I spotted a huge green ball to the west travelling from the south west in a northerly direction however it appeared to be losing altitude quite quick as well as fragmenting before it disappeared behind the tree line of the horizon.
I live 10miles west/Nwest of Woodstock and still being at least 20-25 minutes from home I thought it possible it may have traveled almost over my house.
More than likely it was closer to Lake Huron but no way to tell either way.

I am located in Windsor Ontario Canada , right across the river from Detroit Michigan ,Was watching tv OCT 4 2011 about 8 pm when I noted a glow from the front window which faces west. I have seen many shooting stars before & this appeared to much larger than anything I have seen , It was coming down at 45 degree angle & slower than the usual shooting star , was visible for 10 seconds or so before it went behind trees. It looked large & very bright green there seemed to be a white halo around the edge & it was trailing white sparks , it broke into 2 pieces both trailing white sparks. Fom my position it appeared to be heading west northwest It was bright enough & large enough that I wonder if it impacted , surely someone saw it....

I saw the fireball this evening (October 4, 2011) at around 8:05 pm EST. I am in South Haven, Michigan along the Lake Michigan shoreline. I was facing East and saw it move from upper right to lower left in the sky. Upper left to lower right. As it moved across the sky it moved downward. It happened so fast but long enough to be in awe. I questioned what I say and thought fireworks but there was no sound. I did not hear a boom before the seeing the light. We had just come outside 5 minutes earlier. My biggest impression was the size of the white light ball that than streaked. I told my son that I thought I saw green too at the time but now that a few hours have passed I'm not remembering exact details regarding the color. Grateful to have witnessed it! We had just come outside to check out the moon. What an unexpected sky treat!

I'm quite fascinated to learn about other eyewitness accounts. Is this an early part of the NASA predicted show of October 8??

Date: October 4th, 2011 Time: 8:11 EST Location: North Pelham, Ontario, Canada My wife and I were returning from an early movie and dinner and were almost home, driving due west down the road to our house. In the black sky ahead a white light suddenly appeared, much like the light on an airplane as it approaches you. It started at about 30 degrees above the horizon and descended quickly to earth at about a 45 degree angle. From our location it looked to descend from south to north. We could only see it for about one second and it disappeared behind the treeline which was fairly close. My wife and I both remarked on it; we had not seen anything quite like it before. When we arrived home I phoned the police thinking the light was indeed on an airplane that might have crashed within a few miles of us. They told me at the time they had received no other calls other than mine. I'm glad I found this site....now I can finally sleep! - BM

I live in Cleveland, Ohio. It was approximately 7:45. I was driving westbound, and it was so HUGE it caught my eye instantly. It seemed to start as a big ball and then the streak followed behind it. It burned up in a bright greenish-blue color. It seemed to be moving West to North as it fell out of the sky. I was in my car, so I didn't hear anything at the time.

My sister and I were on our way home from grocery shopping near the "thumb" area of Michigan and seen the fireball. It was lower in the horizon than anything I have ever witnessed. I was standing in a parking lot last night about 8pm and a friend and I witnessed the downward streaking fireball. It was very bright and multi-colored.
We were in Farmington Hills, Michigan near the intersection of Grand River Avenue and 10 Mile Road. The fireball was to the Northwest of us (over Milford, MI)
It seemed very close...to the point where my friend thought it was a bullet (he has seen many in his home country). I found your website after a Google search in looking for what the streak could have been.

On October 4, 2011 at about 8pm EST, I was traveling west on US-10 near Auburn, MI, and I saw a greenish-orange tail of what I assume was a meteorite to the south. It appeared to be split in two and was only visible for a few seconds. It was a little less than 45 degrees above the horizon. It moved slightly north of west and was about a third the brightness of the moon last night. Hope this observation helps! I am a bit farther north than many of your previous comments. Last night my daughter, my neighbor, and myself saw what looked like a meteor or shooting star travel from the east to the west shortly after 8 p.m. We were in Clawson, Rochester, and West Bloomfield, Michigan, in the Southeastern part of the State. It was a stunning “sign in the heavens” for us, as all three of us had just spoken to God in prayer,

A co- worker and I were leaving work at a location near the NE corner of 10 Mile & Beck in Novi, MI at around 8/8:10 pm. Altho I heard no sonic boom, it was my co-worker who noticed it first. I turned to face West to just catch the tail end of a yellow – white stream in the sky before it dropped bel;ow a tree line & was no longer in sight. Was traveling from W/NW direction (upper left to lower Right) . My co-worker thought it was a shooting star as she has never witnessed one before J

On the evening of 10/04/11 I was leaving the house around 8:05 pm in Berkley Michigan when I saw a large orange/yellow fireball in the western sky. It had a long tail that quickly fizzled out as it appeared to fall from the sky going from what seemed the south east to north west. It was a clear beautiful night and it was clearly visible for several seconds and was completely silent. Not sure if it was a comet or a meteor.

I also witnessed said meteor from Ypsilanti, MI. It was by far the largest and most impressive one I have ever seen; it appeared to be extremely close and moving straight down in the west northwestern sky before splitting into two pieces one that moved off slightly to the north and the other slightly to the south. Awesome!

At around 8:00p.m saw what looked to be a meteorite in the western sky, travelling in a northerly descending direction. The projectile split into two, before burning out, and must have crashed somewhere near by. Shortly after, i heard a car alarm go off in which i assumed was hit by the fireball. (lol)

On October 4, 2011 at approximately 8:10 pm, I was travelling west on Snyder’s Road between Petersburg and Baden (near Waterloo ON) and saw two very bright white lights in the western sky travelling in tandem at about a 45 degree angle towards the horizon. They were visible for about 4-5 seconds before they faded. Like another witness reported, I was concerned it was a plane going down until the lights quickly faded in the dark sky and I realized what I had seen was actually a fragmented meteorite.

I was driving west on Vreeland Road toward Fort Street about 8:05 pm on the evening of October 4, 2011. I was on the phone with my daughter who was in Monroe, Michigan at the time. I saw the fireball/meteor and didn’t know what it was. It seemed so low. It was about 1/2 the size of a full moon, maybe a little smaller, but very large for a shooting star. When I first saw it, I said, “Oh my God”. My daughter said the same thing at the same time. Then she said, “Shooting Star”. I asked, “Did you see that too?” Monroe is about 30 miles south of Trenton and we saw the same thing at the same time. We couldn’t believe we both seen it at the exact same time. It was like a large fireball...it only lasted a couple of seconds from when I seen it. It was travelling north west, pretty low in the sky. It appeared to have broken in two, then it disappeared. It was yellowish with a bluish/greenish tint around it. Hard to remember now. I listened to the news this morning but heard nothing about it. I then searched the internet for information on it and found this site. Very, very amazing. I’ve never seen anything like it before. Crazy!

Hello...I'm writing in regards to the fireball/meteor I witnessed on October 4, 2011
I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and was traveling westbound on US 52 (along the Ohio River). I witnessed a huge fireball/meteor that appeared to my North and was traveline in a west/ possible SW direction, hard to say exactly as US 52 curves along the river so I'm not sure if I was traveline due west or possible north at that particular section of the highway. It was the largest meteor/fireball I had ever witnessed and lasted for a long time. I was able to tell my daughter, "look at that shooting star" and she had time to look up from the back seat and witness it before it disappeared. It definitely had me curious because I immediately went home and searched the local news stations and googled meteor showers. Thanks

On 10/04/2011 at approximately 7pm CST my wife and I were travelling Eastbound on Center Street (Cty A27) at Route 45 in Grayslake IL (60030) when we saw a blue/green fireball with a long trail descending at high speed. I first noticed it at around 60 degrees above the horizon, almost straight east, and moving towards the horizon in a northeasterly direction. It appeared to split into two pieces at about 40 degrees above horizon, with the smaller piece appearing to break off to the right from my perspective. It then disappeared from my sight about 20 degrees above the horizon, just above the treeline from my perspective. We were located about 10 miles straight west from the western shore of Lake Michigan, almost equidistant between the heart of Milwaukee WI and Chicago IL.
I too thought it might be a fast moving plane that was crashing relatively nearby. Really glad it wasn't!

I was traveling North on St. Rt. 315 North of Columbus, OH, facing the suburb of Delaware, OH, a few minutes after 8:00 p.m. on 10/4/11. I saw a bright green light appearing to travel directly straight down from the sky toward the road in front of me. Impossible to tell how far away, but it was very large. I had thought it had to hit somewhere in Delaware, OH simply due to its size, but looking over these posts and the locations, I may be very mistaken. Beautiful indeed, but I was pretty sure I was crazy. :)
